NP: My daughter got one of those at sunday school (Pastor's wife is a hoot) Anyway, we spent the weekend nursing a Cicada that decided to try swimming. I saved him/her and my daughter was in heaven! Big sucker too, maybe 3". He flew away and almost immediately dad found a little frog. The bug barn became 'aqua bug barn' for the day...cheap thrills and the kids learn something. Priceless.

I think Cicadas are cool.  I actually don't mind their reemergence, but as stated, they can make some noise.  When they all die and I see their sheaths and bodies, I feel sorry for them because they have such a short lifespan above ground! :)

Majority of bugs do have a short lifespan.   We have seen pink grasshoppers, can't remember the when or how or why tho.. darn. Oh well, at least I am able to remember that I don't know! LOL

They aren't terribly mean, but  they are big. I was out in the yard last year and hear what could have been interpreted as a helicopter carrying a heavy load off my left shoulder. I turned around and here came one carrying a cicada it had killed and was ferrying it in to lay her eggs in it and bury it. I backed up and she landed about a foot from where I was at and did her thing. Nature is amazing.
