If this guy actually goes through with this, we'll then be able to see the true character of the Afghans, Iraqis, Pakistanis, etc.
THEIR true character? Our people are burning their holy books and banning their places of worship, but if they react it shows THEY have no morality?

Pastor Terry Jones poses next to shooting-range targets and a movie poster in his office in the Dove World Outreach Center on Tuesday. The Gainesville pastor plans to burn about 200 Korans in a protest Saturday, the anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.

Behind him on the wall was a gun range target. Next to it was a head of death in a Middle Eastern headdress. The target's bull's-eye focused on the figure's chest.
Beside the targets was a movie poster, showing Mel Gibson as Braveheart.

Quote from the assistant pastor (packing a .45) "No one in history has been through anything like this," he said. "Jesus had just one part of the world down on him. We've got the whole world."

The whole country isn't burning  quarans, just one tiny church.
It's HOW they react!  They're already burning our country's flag and this guy hasn't even done anything yet!
It's time we stop catering to the ridiculous demands of the Islamic extremists.
I haven't heard of anybody banning their places of worship.

Repressive parents tend to make for unfortunate personality traits in their offspring. Repressive regimes and belief systems can do the same for societies as a whole. Seems a rather thin skinned reaction - kind of like the 'draw Mohammed' soiree. Then again - on the part of the bonehead in Florida - there is a VAST difference between righteousness and self-righteousness.

Thing is - freedom requires responsibility. Just because we might have a 'right' to do something that may be considered offensive to another doesn't necessarily mean we ought to exercise that right.

I've been thinking about the concept of the U.S. being a Christian nation at its founding. Many folks say we weren't. I've been one of those - but the more I think about the 'founding principles' and Christ's fulfillment of the Law and how that requires a deeper understanding of the spirit of the law - I get it.

Where there is freedom - it not only requires responsibility (and not merely as a personal "morality" but true ethics) . . . it also requires love.

How does burning books, crosses or churches advance someone's faith?

Negative proselytizing. Interesting concept.

Attracting folks to faith by defining whom we hate.

Yeah - it does.

A lot of the American perception of Islam is based on our exposure to the extreme factions of the faith. A lot of the Muslims world's perception of America is based on their exposure to the extreme factions of our faith. (Thank you media! This fellow certqainly 'deserved' 15 minutes . . . right?)

Of course - their 'other' exposure is to our culture through our chief export - entertainment. (And in some countries - soldiers - who actually do a fine job, save for incidents like Abu Gharib.) And what do we tend to glorify? Therefore - that is a representation of "us" to "them." So - if we make a lot of films glorifying violence, greed and lust and send them overseas for consumption, what do you suppose one could form an opinion based on? I mean - aren't we partially known by the company we keep?

I think elementary logic should be taught to our species by age 13.

Interesting...

Military burns unsolicited Bibles sent to Afghanistan
#!

http://articles.cnn.com/2009-05-20/world/us.military.bibles.burned_1_bibles-al-jazeera-english-military-personnel?_s=PM:WORLD

This is just 2 sources...there are many more. Why couldn't the military just ship them out to an "undisclosed location"?? So it is the "Battle of the Burning Books". What in Hell is wrong with us... our politicians and media could have and should have.... just let this knat on a mouse arse do what he wanted with no Spotlight and microphones... but NOOOOOO we gotta make him and his 2 doz. followers "stars"...OMG. No one put up a fuss when we burned Christian Bibles but now the Quran becomes center stage... With the voices of everyone from Obama to Petraeus to Hillary and every network, we gave this idiot what he wanted.... Cart Blanc to be remembered.

Oh and I don't equate burning "bibles' with our flag but no one seems too damned upset over ANYONE burning our Flag...over there or over here ( well maybe there are a few of us). I don't understand this process of outrage and if it lawful ( but stupid) for him to do this... I hate to say it folks, but it isn't illegal yet to be stupid. We have become our own worst enemy.

I still have to wonder why a religion thinks it a death sentence to draw a caracature of it's religeous icon but we allow a depiction of Jesus to be put in a vial of urine and call it "art". Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot?.... WTF for those from Rio Linda. So I can go outside my home, proclaim I am burning bibles and no one thinks that is a story, but this puke does this and he is FRONT PAGE??

This all comes from a society that thinks nothing of desecrating .... Indian Burial Grounds, Tombs in Egypt (Africa), Mexico, Central and South America? ???  Our Native Americans still honor their dieties as do others around the world... So now it comes down to the burning of a "bible". When I was in the military, I was issued a bible... I still have it. I considered ANY military base I was on, that flew and American Flag, was AMERICAN TERRITORY while we occupied it. These NEW rules are confusing to an old duffer like me.... I still think that 2+2=4 but that way of thinking seems to have fell by the wayside. IMHO

The Military didn't need to burn the bibles...they could have disappeared in other ways and certainly more quietly and a non YOU TUBE event. In my life I have heard many reasons that put our troops in danger and even more that kept them there. Some even you wouldn't believe if I told you and showed you. God Bless our pointy little heads.... ::)

I have yet to understand the "My God is better than your God" mentality, and how one could war or kill anything or anyone over it.

Isn't that the exact opposite of what God... ANY understanding of God.... is about?

I seem to be of two minds on this in a way. I mean - if it's legal - it's legal, but sometimes legal isn't always moral or ethical. It terms of the Mosque - build it - but maybe choose another dedication day - ya know? In terms of Mr. Moustache, don't care if you're burnin' Korans all that much - but check yer head dude. (And why is the media slavering all over this? Because they WANT conflict . . . as do the politicians it seems. Easier to lead a confused, fearful populace ain't it?)

I do find this peculiar on a large scale.

Anyone here the child of an angry / abusive parent? How do you deal with that when you are powerless? How do you deal with it once you have power? I've noticed that certain Islamic Cultures / Countries seem rather quick to anger and react in harsh fashion. Kind of like one of those folks you walk on eggshells around.

Of course - eggshell walking serves to protect yourself - but in the long run, continues to enable the behavior in question . . . so - what to do?

The answer is there . . . but do we have the insight / will to pull it off?

(BTW - America can be a bit reactive as well - yes?)

Ok folks, maybe you can figure this out....

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100909/ap_on_re_as/quran_burning_reaction

Why aren't these idiots burning bibles???? not flags...It isn't a national thing or we would burn THEIR FLAG...Hmmmmmm  :what:  Oh...yeah.... I forgot...there ARE NO BIBLES THERE TO BURN UNLESS LOL you ask for them from OUR MILITARY. God this is soooooo convoluted.

Our Country seems to be the one that represents Christians.... I think there is a German Guy in a dress and pointy hat who lives in Italy who might argue that point  .... Where is the Duct Tape!!!!!!

if either are doing anything against the Law

The local fire department denied the church a permit to burn. This church sits in a field but right in the middle of a concentrated suburb. But he decided that he doesn't have to follow the law of the land. THAT is against the law.
BTW, there is a Gator home game in Gainesville that day so there will be close to an extra 100,000 people in the city....

I say create a barrier for a mile either way, no media, nothing. Let 'em burn the books and get arrested for not having a permit.

Yep.

But then what would we have to chat about, lol.  All kidding aside, our 24/7 media nation don't know how to NOT do that anymore.
