Horse racing returns to Erie
« on: September 01, 2007, 08:14:54 AM »
Presque Isle Downs and Casino plans to open its newly built thoroughbred racetrack today.  The are offering up huge purses for a new track. So either there's a lot of money backing it, or they really believe hat they can gain entry level to the big-leagues.

I guess I can live with the Horse racing. As a side note, I haven't lived in in the area for some time, but when did a casino open in Erie? And does the area really need one?

It opened a ew montsh back.  And it's thriving from all the reports I have seen.  We stopped in just out of curiosity about two weeks after their grand opening and the place was PACKED!  I mean packed!  Three deep at the bar.  Al machines in use.  Food everywhere.  I'd say this is a major success.   I think it will fly for quite some time.   The hore racing will do well.  I just found a new home for a thoroughbred who was an ex-racehorse. :(  His sister still competes.  Ran in Kentucky Derby last year anyway.  Hmmmmm.

I still have very mixed feelings about casinos popping up all over the place. I really wonder what the true benifits are in the long run.

Don't they turn over more than half of their profits to the state?

Looks like these places get to keep 45%.
55 cents of each dollar goes to the state in one form or another.
