Well I for one, did have a subscription..have since long before they change from "THE SHARON HERALD". We have the paper for a reason other than the front page , sports and comics.
 
As far as Admin Babysitters..some forums delay the posts until they are read over and deemed acceptable by today's standards.... Some delay an hour..some even 24 hours.
 
I do know those forums were read by many who never posted.... they read them to get the flow of public thought and ideas for projects of their own. There was a redeeming quality to them if used right. Now the HERALD has lost.... and the TRIBUNE still keeps theirs... and hopefully the people who used the original forum will follow where we the people have found to do what we do.

First off, Welcome to the board Jayhawk.

I seriously doubt the forums were in any way intended to sell newspapers. Small town newspapers are in dire straits these days as circulation continues to decrease because of the influx of online news that's available. In short the daily printed medium is dying. The forums were I believe originally intended as a "nicety" to the communities to possibly augment the income via advertising. I don't know how much they make but I suspect it covers the operational costs and that's about it.

Just for the record heymartha/groupee is owned and operated by cnhi. How the forums were administrated I can't say. I do believe that someone from the local paper with moderation capabilities was designated to cruise through the forum periodically to examine and moderate content as needed. At some point I believed this practice stopped with any regularity. Eventually Many of the features were pulled (ie PM's) due to some abusers of the feature. What the future of the cnhi community is remains to be seen. They haven't done any upgrades or deployed any "value added" features that I have seen. I don't know what they have planned for it in the future either. I suspect that hm/groupee is providing some revenue or it would be gone altogether since companies are on massive cost-cutting spree's these
days.

So we sit and watch I guess.

There really isn't a need for filthy talk on any forum.
 SC put it nicely with "A furry rodents behind" instead of saying a "Rats ass"! We all like to have fun and there is room for serious debate also . We just want to remember that we all have really big toes and it hurts normally when they get stepped on.
But ya know,,, there will always be that few that just don't git it!
