Then I guess those of us who do follow the daily local and national news should leave now or forever hold their peace??? I went through this site and links.... news and the discussion of such IS a part of the Forums. I thought we were allowed to discuss these items, especially in our locale.

Now I am thinking, maybe this isn't where I should settle. I was part of the Herald forums and yes..a member of the "If It Bleeds, It Leads" Club. That, my friends, is how the news is prepared... Newspapers don't "Print the news".... THEY SELL NEWSPAPERS.

If I am not welcome to express my thoughts in here folks....and I am limited to what I can type, short of an attack on another as a first strike, tell me now I am in the wrong rooms.

If you say I am, it was nice to know you all and maybe we will see each other again sometimes in the future.
I'll second that!

I don't see any problem at all with discussing local news on this site, but I don't feel that it needs to be the only discussions that take place. The Shenango Valley is made up of much, much more than what Raykie and Saternow see fit to jot down on their daily circular.

As far as a news feed here, if you check the Herald site once, you have pretty much seen it for the day. EEticket does have a news feed page here. The Herald headlines are there, discuss away.

This site will give you the opportunity to discuss those Herald headlines in a respectable manner, much more than the Herald ever did for us.

Mr R

Lifetime chill out dude!  Laughing at the Meadville Tribune is necessary at times.  Especially when Lisa Micelli is the best news they can come up with.  I never said you couldn't or shouldn't discuss local news.  Carry on!

My sentiments exactly, Mr. R.  You just put them into words better than I did.  Thanks  ;D

Let me be perfectly clear on the official position here:

This is community forum. News is part of the community. Your thoughts and opinions about the community and any personal thoughts you care to share are what makes this site go-round.

Post and discuss to your hearts content.

As an added note I hope this gives everyone the option to see (or not) local new of their choice on the site.

i don't see the need to clutter the site with headline feeds, but if something is noteworthy enough in the community to make the paper or the coffee-shop chatter, it's worthy of being discussed here -- and probably will be by someone going to the trouble of bringing it up.

seeing what other people think about local issues is why i frequent locally-focused forums. Unless there's some local tie, if i wanted to debate supreme court nominations or federal bailouts, i'd go to some national political site.

what i hate about many local forums is when outsiders or trolls cross-post diatribes on hotbutton issues, conspiracy theories and spiritual hokem. Often it's not even the poster's writings, but just something cut'n'pasted.

so far i'm pleased that the atmosphere here seems to be relatively free of that junk as well as the tiring "you're an idiot" "no, you're an AH" insult threads.

It was just an option to satiate the news hungry. I wanted to do something that would be "optional." I still have not forgot about the unread posts task I have either. That will take some more doing.

And lastly... glad you like the sphincter free decorum here. ;)

Some of us are from there but don't live there and the news feeds in one area help make searching for what is happening easier.  Does that make sense?  I just like the fact that I can look at several paper's headlines at once and pick and choose what to read.  I don't get the Trib here in North Cackalacky!
