Grok in the county that we live in when one reaches 62 you no longer pay school tax.  ;D   ;D   ;D
Talk about shifting the tax burden... apply that to Mercer County's demographics and half the population would be stuck with the full tax bill.

As for not wanting the undesirables in your school district, be it noted that Hermitage police seem to file more charges against their students than any other valley department -- fights, threats, assaults and even a recent sexual-assault case for an incident on school grounds just after the bell rang that started with a consensual sex act between two ninth-graders.

Yeah, i wouldn't want that kind of riff-raff added to my district, either.

Jayhawk, maybe the other schools choose to handle it themselves rather than calling the cops over every incident.

I think looking at all of the crime in these other schools' communities is a better indicator.

Sorry.... have to agree to disagree.... How goes those who are depended on, so goes the Valley as a whole. Two things that stands out..... Farrell and Sharon Residents go to Hermitage to do some of the basics...SHOP.... That leads to a lot of money in the hands of the Government of Hermitage. And 2.... Sharon has many empty storefronts and it is obvious as it is in a concentrated area. I travel through the communities and because Hermitage is spread out... the empty store fronts don't hit you as easily. There are basically empty plazas and plenty of empty building there as well. These store front, once being full, was a money source to the city. Hermitage has it's share of problems although they are not readily obvious as it is in Sharon and Farrell. We ALL have the same problem when it comes to schools...we put out TOO much of our precious finances for the results. When we pay about 1/2 a Million dollars to keep School Superintendents inour school districts and am managerially topheavy.... at least a school "consol" is a good thing for all to earnestly look into. In this time of worries and dependencies on a shrinking tax base... it is due. And this is even with those over 62 and 65 still contributing. I couldn't picture what would happen if those of us who are 62 plus would be exempt. Cycles can and will happen and if you think Hermitage is exempt from this.... I think it may be time for a visit to the Optomitrist. Hermitage relies on the other communities and shouldn't keep poking their finger in these communities eyes.

Again... I refer back to the refinding of Authority BACKBONE in order to clear up some of these School problems. Sharon did something as simple as to rein in the dress code and from what I am hearing.... it was well worth it. I hear remarks from within the schools as well as from those on the outside.

Perception is also something that can be skewed unless you look underneath. I won't go into the situation back when I was in school in Sharon.... It had to do with Parochial Schools going to grade 8 and then there was a move to the Public High School. It involved Sharon High School, (the then named) Sharon Kennedy Christian and drugs..... both the use of and the dealing of. Anyone out there my age, I bet, could remember the reality of this and fill in the story. reality vs. perception.

Lifetime I agree with you on the most part but Sharon has been going down hill for a very long time (very poor mayor and management etc) and no one was trying to do anything about it, just thinking that it would all work out by itself...so now is it up to a merge to help them out? (bailout)  ;D   ???   Like I have said it could work but there is a lot more to it than schools! If I lived in Sharon or Farrell (which I have at one time) I would be all for it too!  :)  Nothing against you or anyone that lives in Sharon or Farrell as I have said before we have friends and family that live in Sharon and Farrell...Everyone needs to get involved from all districts that want to come together and make sure that all the t's are crosssed and the i's are dotted before anything proceeds. Again I will say if you or anyone else can show me that it will help everyone and not just a few I will be ALL for it.  ;)

Amen...the Shenango Valley's communities, with the exception of a few largely superficial differences, are all in the same boat.  The "grass is greener" mentality is ridiculous and needs to GO (and trust me, it's not just Hermitage).

Uh, buddy...I'm pretty sure that when activity takes place on school grounds that violates local, state, and/or federal law, the police HAVE to be notified.

You mean like how greenville handled it themselves when someone was assaulted with a broom handle in a locker room?
