I suspect the latter (reporters/other people like to lump many breeds under "pit bull"), but regardless with that bite history that animal needs put down.

I have a great dog.  Husband picked him up at the pound.  Dream dog. Doesn't bark his head off.  Doesn't jump up on people. Doesn't crap on my floors.  So Mr Who brings the dog home and I say "What is he?"  He say's, "They told be he is half Lab and half Stafforshire Terrier."  Staffordshire Terrier is the real name for a Pitbull.  They don'ttell you these things at the Humane Society apparently.  And this was theMeadvilleone. A good friend of mine just got a dog at the Mercer County Humane Society three weeks ago.  She sends me a picture of it on my phone.  I said "What is he?" (already knowing full well what it is.).....she says  "Staffordshire Terrier".....I thought, do I tell her?  I did.  She says he's a great dog and is really good with her kids.  They do have a look in their eye......

Guess I really didn't make much of a point there did I.   Guess I was trying to say most people don't know there is a "real" name for these breeds.  Should they disclose that at the time of adoption?  Or should we all be better educated on this stuf when we go pet shopping?

Well if they tell you he is a stafforshire terrier then they apparently know.  And choose not to say "oh by the way"......  This was (is)our first dog and I felt a little deceived.  Love the darned dog though.

Methinks that the breeding of Ms. Hughes may be a bigger question here... ;)

This dog has eight previous attacks and she leaves a child alone with it...

I want a rottie!!  They are the best dogs!!  I also dog sit my friend's staffordshire terrier/lab mutt.  HE is the best snuggling dog there is!!

Maybe these people need to start treating their pets better and they won't be nuts!

I feel for the little child though.

The people across the street have a pit/bassett hound mix. She's an awesome dog and incredibly friendly, but rather odd looking. I love dogs but Robyn is a cat person and rather sketchy about dogs, mostly I think because she hasn't been around them that much. Either way a dog isn't in the picture right now. We don't need another mouth to feed. If we get a dog it's not going to be a rat in a mohair coat... it's going to be a dog.

Rotts rock!  We had one we got from the SPCA in Clarion when Booglet was an infant.  The dog had a gimped paw.  That dog would take everything a baby could dish out.  Ya know, the usual crawling, pulling himself up on the dog, throwing toys at it, smacking the dog with toys until he learned he couldn't do that, teething on the dog, EVERYTHING.

The dog even kept Booglet from going up or down the stairs if I wasn't in the room at the time most of the time.  He had a herding mentality around the baby.  It was so cool.  When Booglet napped, so did the dog.

He was old when we got him and he passed away when Booglet was just shy of 2.
