Former Dodge City property
« on: August 06, 2009, 02:18:13 PM »
It appears that the building and property which formerly housed Varley's Dodge City has been sold to the McGonigle family (of funeral home and ambulance service fame).  Anyone know what their plans might be for it?

Someone told me that it will be their new ambulance headquarters.

Hmm, interesting.  They've always looked kind of cramped at their current location.  I hope they don't let that cool little Tudor-style building sit empty too long though. ;D

From today's Herald:

UPDATE: McGonigle Ambulance moving to Hermitage

McGonigle Ambulance Service Inc. is getting a new home.
The Sharon ambulance service has bought the former Varley Dodge building on East State Street in Hermitage for $690,000, according to a real estate transfer. Currently, McGonigle's operates its ambulances out of a former gas station and a business office at locations on East State Street in Sharon.
The new Hermitage site offers the company more room, said J. Bradley McGonigle III, president of the ambulance company.
"We simply ran out of room at our current location," McGonigle said. He added he has no immediate plans to sell his existing locations.
The former Varley building will be cleaned up and prepared for the move later this year, he said.
The new site will house the company's 54 employees along with seven ambulances and four ambulettes. The company receives about 1,000 ambulance calls a month with 35 percent of those emergency calls, McGonigle said.
Part of the Hermitage building will be used for staff meetings and educational purposes.
In addition to ambulance services, the business is a certified continuing educator for Pennsylvania Bureau of Emergency Medical Services and also offers community educational training.

Hmmmmm ..."no immediate plans" to sell the current buildings" has you bothered??? Perhaps another word or two could come to mind.... RENT or LEASE? ??? ? The properties are on State Street and could prove to be an investment in real-estate... so..... why sell just now? ???

I believe one of the buildings was a Drs. office at one time and the other was an electrical repair shop to name one of it's uses.

If they're no longer needed, why keep them?

That decision is their business, not ours.

Perhaps they'll just keep them vacant for years so the uptown will match the downtown, or maybe they plan to lease them out to some kind of music museum.

It doesn't BOTHER me; I was only curious and OVERLOOKED renting/leasing.  Yeesh!

I do know of at least one other business (currently located elsewhere in Sharon) that was very interested in the business office building at the time the McGonigles purchased it.

From what I gathered ... there may have been a bit of spirited bidding....  ;)
