Sandy's Market
« on: August 06, 2009, 02:50:35 PM »
I heard a rumor (yeah way down here) that There may possibly be a Golden Corral going in where Sandy's was. For those of you that aren't familiar with them the are an "all you can graze" buffet.

Oh - that'll go a long way toward solving the obesity 'round here. I don't know - one of those are more oriented toward Interstate traveller traffic ain't they?

The Redhead would like it though . . . .

Oh we have those all over the south.  No interstate needed.  Enjoy that!  It is like Ponderosa on crack!

They are far better than Ponderosa.  Over-the-top buffett.  Their dessert bar is almost as big as Ponderosa's whole deal.  Meadville needs another restaurant like I need a hole in my head.   I'd like to see a Target or some such thing.

Ponderosa used to be a good place to eat when Paul managed the place but since his departure to "The Movies", Ponderosa went down hill real fast. I used to go there once a week faithfully now its maybe twice a year and that is just to see if it has changed. Golden Corral  :drooling: will be welcomed by me. Looks like I'll be needing to get a membership to the "Y" ;D  to help keep the excess poundage off. ;D

I worked at that ponderosa after I left the AF.
cross thread post:
I saved money by eating the leftovers, steak & rolls. hey, I was poor. I used to walk from Allegheny to Ponderosa for what, 3 bucks an hour?

'hey you kids, get outta my yard!'

I'm starting to feel that way. I am surrounded by college age kids that have no work ethic OR brains it seems.

When people around me start complaining about the economy, I retell stories of what we went through in Meadville in the late 70's and early 80's. Dudes (and dudettes), I was seriously poor & could barely find a job. And I wasn't in the minority.

It was uphill both ways though. And it was in the winter.  ;D

Did I ever tell you about the time... :bs:

I would only take this kind of abuse from y'all.

Keep in mind this is only a rumor, but it comes from a very good source. From what I understand many people had high hopes for an Eat and Park. I think what I find most disturbing is that there seems to be an ever shrinking market for independently owned businesses that can complete with the big chains. They just don't have the mass buying power and supply chain. It's ironic because people want the money to stay in their small town but don't seem to think about where the money really goes when they are standing at the register.

Jobs are jobs....especially now.  If Sandy's is going to close and something opens, it will be jobs and another business paying their taxes.  There is always a silver lining I guess.

LOTS of low paying jobs. I would imagine at least 100 or so.

I figured out that if you had both parents working full time at minimum wage, they still couldn't make it, without a car.

At least you can walk there from anywhere in Meadville. Is Arby's still next door? I would imagine Golden Corral would put them out of business.

Arby's is a fast food chain so I think they will be safe. Ever been down at Arby's around lunch time? Cars lined out into the street. That place is a Grab and Go eatery

I think the chain has also nimbly navigated all the changes in fast food, while maintaining their uniqueness. I personally stop there when I'm travelling.

Still, how many restaurant dollars ARE there to be spent in that town?!? I guess Allegheny students will hit it pretty hard too...
