Joy Cone seeking approval to expand
« on: August 19, 2009, 09:54:22 AM »
According to a public notice in today's Herald, Joy Cone Co. is seeking zoning approval to build a 60,102-square-foot addition to its facility on Lamor Rd.

Hopefully this will mean a few new jobs--and many retained jobs--for the community.

The people who own Joy live down the road from me out here in the sticks - or so I'm told.  Nice secluded place.

Boy you  guys sure have a lot going on down there lately!

More than one would expect, but less than I would like.   ;) :D

I didn't know Joy Cone was there. I think every grocery chain nationwide buys their product.

Pretty much, as do a lot of ice cream stores.  Their main operations are in Hermitage, and they also have a smaller plant in Flagstaff, AZ.  It's a delicious-smelling place to drive past on warm days!

That's a good deal -I hope the zoning board has the good sense to approve that.

I'm glad zoning boards are local. Could you imagine of they were a Federal thing?

What are you suggesting... that a local zoning board will give locals a little special treatment now and then whereas a distant, disinterested board would only rule on the law?

That could work good and bad both ways, since one of the purposes of zoning is preserving the integrity of surrounding properties and neighborhoods.

I'm suggesting that Federal red tape would prohibit the timely implementation of something good happening at a local level. Which - kinda happens.

I prefer my politics local. You can look somebody in the eye and hash out the pros and cons . . . as opposed to a faceless "they" making a decision somewhere.

I have found that federal regulation of local concerns to generally be bad. Speaking as a former resident of the 49th state, bad decisions are routinely reached and enacted when the feds get involved. Not all are bad, but the feds seemed to make more blunders than the locals did.

I dunno. I've seen locals pull some pretty bonehead moves, too, over the years. Neither jurisdiction has a lock on incompetence.

Jayhawk - I agree with you 100%.

But with a local dude / dudette - it's WAY easier to hold them accountable.

Inever said the locals were incapable of making bone headed decisions. I have see fewer made. My least favorite quote I ever heard on the subject was "Alaska is far to important a comodity to have it's future decided by those that live there." Hearing these kind of statements made by people that have never set foot there just gets my hackles up. The same kind of crap goes on everywhere.
