Who got to be the first riders?

define "first"? the ACE crew that came up were among the first riders today, the inspector rode it a few days ago along with one of the Lisko's and Lenny....

I was up there with my ACE buddies and had the first ride before the park opened at 4:00 PM. She still kicks like a mule and lets you know that she means business.  What a ride! I'm sure she needs a little more time to break in.  What a terrific job Structural Technologies did in getting her ready. The curve is much smoother.  I hear there was a crowd of people cheering her on outside the campground when she leaped out of the gate on her maiden voyage. Congratulations to all who made this possible. I'll post some pictures later.

I didn't think you could make it? Were you one of the 4 ACE guys I was talking to about 5 pm? I wish I could have put a face to the name...

ZIP,  I would guess that some of the 1st riders would be some of the Trustees if they could make it.  I just presumed this from JIMMY t's comment about Carol.  Carol West was my 1st thought when he said the name.  I may be wrong though.  By the way, I liked your piece in the Tribune about the preformers at the Fair.  I forgot that you lived in Guys Mills.  I don't know if I ever asked you if you know my aunt Billie and uncle Neal (just passed over recently) Lang, and my cousin John Lang and his wife Donna.  They live on Oil Creek Road.   You don't have to answer here on the thread.  Let me know the next time I see you.  There is a good chance that I can make Pumpkinfest, but not 100% sure yet.

Thanks! The Fair show was wonderful. It was not well attended by comparison to the national acts, but it was a good show, and those who did come had nothing but positive things to say. We were happy they came and enjoyed the show.

I think in the paper there was only one unfavorable comment, most likely made by someone who did not attend or was not asked to perform, with "sour grapes" to spit. The show went off without a hitch, and I was really proud of the level of professionalism and talent our people presented that day.

We had rain, unseasonable cold, and so many other factors to deal with. Just the fact that it was on a Monday could have an influence on the attendance, but as far as the production, it was excellent. Lon Wilson did a great job of keeping things interesting and moving, the Allegro dancers were a hit, the bands were well rehearsed and ready, and all of them did an outstanding job, and lived the experience of the entire day's events, both backstage and onstage.

It takes a minute or two to load because I wanted big fun pictures for everyone to see. You can see in the Grandstands the people trying to keep warm.... one woman has her coat collar up around her ears, and yet they stayed and enjoyed the day with us. :)

On another note...
I do not know the Langs, but imagine my in-laws do. My MIL knows just about everyone out here.

I left after 4:30 PM.  Sorry I missed you Jimmyt.  I'll probably be up Saturday.  Since this was also Media Day, many of the first riders besides ACE members were the press.

Just heard on the radio (91.9FM) that the Dipper from Geauga Lake is up for auction, with an opening bid of $9,000+.  No bids yet.

Shall we pool our pennies and buy it???

....the actual starting bid is is $9500, with the BUY IT NOW price of $65,000....

....sort of interesting they put such a limited-appeal hard-to-move item on such a short auction....

....last December the price was $150,000 firm....

....it's not exactly a thriller coaster and has little kick to it, more along the lines of the last half of the Streak; its history is about all it has going for it....

Does anyone know if the you need to buy a ride pass before you can buy the $3.00 ticket for the Blue Streak?
I was under the impression that is was a separate charge, but the Meadville Tribune says it's an extra $3.00 added to the all day ride pass.

Did anyone else hear that they moved the Pumpkinfest to September?  Sounds strange.

You buy the $3.00 ticket separately. I believe the price to
ride the Blue Streak in the past was $2.00.  Considering that the cost of renovation to this point is around $150,000, I would say this is a good deal. For every 350 feet of track replacement, a rough guess is that it will cost
around or below $150,000.

No, Pumpkin Fest is October 8, 9, and 10.  There is a separate event called Oktoberfest that is September 18 and 19.

You can buy them separately...just ride the Blue Streak if you want. It probably wasn't worded in the most clear way...they were I guess trying to emphasize that the Blue Streak is an extra to the regular ride pass.

This is what was explained to me, so I could be wrong, and it certainly won't be the first time.  I think that the Park Restoration Group is having
a separate fall Octoberfest-type function, so that may be in September.

The Pumpkinfest is so successful that the committee knows that if some-
thing isn't broke, don't fix it, type of thing.

Like I said, I could be entirely wrong about what this, but this is how it
was explained to me, as I was concerned that the Pumpkinfest Group
definitely knows how to do a successful event since it draws around
30,000 plus or minus each year.  If anything, I think maybe some good
minds are trying to keep events going each month in order to keep the
Hotel as busy as possible.  I seriously don't believe that the first event
will take away from the Pumpkinfest one bit, but that is just my opinion.

The Oktoberfest in September is being billed as more of a music fest with bands, dancing, etc.  not the craft fest that Pumpkin Fest is.

There's a flyer on the Hotel Conneaut website about Oktoberfest in September:

http://www.clphotelconneaut.com/event_schedule.html
(Scroll down the page)
September 18th and 19th

Polka music and dancing!  Polish music!  Ethnic Food!  Cheap Ride All Day Passes!

Although we weren't planning on it, looks like we may be coming over before Pumpkinfest....

I agree that I don't think this takes away from Pumpkinfest - it appears to be a different type event.  For a Polish gal like me who likes craft fairs, it makes two great events to attend that appeal to different things I like.
