First Capital Finance wasted it's money trying to gain leverage by assuming part of the park's debt.  It was an obvious attempt to try to acquire the park property in the future.  The park won't go into foreclosure as long as decent money is coming in to pay off the debt.  Thank you First Capital Finance for paying $200,000 for a $152,000 debt.  Too bad you will never recoup any of your money.  But it helped CLP in the long run!    ;D

Actually, he will recoup his money, at least a good portion of it....the Park still owes the money, it's just it's owed to First Capital Finance rather than Summit Township...and it continues to accrue interest....I guess it depends on how you look at it...to him, it may have been worth 200k to try it...and decent money coming in doesn't always equate to debt reduction, I think most of us witnessed that before.....I doubt that's a problem with this group, but just saying....

I agree jimmyt, I just believe he wasted his money in a shrewd move trying to get a leg up on the park property.  It will take many, many years to see even a dent put into what they owe him.  Since any money they make has to be distributed, I assume, to all the debt reduction, he may be waiting a long time.  Bad investment or not, his intentions were not for the good of the people of Crawford County, the real owners of the park.

Here's a couple questions for ya's.  Sorry if this has been covered recently but I'm new to the new forum!
1.  How's the debt reduction going?  As part of the lease agreements with the Park, the Hotel operators are helping pay off debt, right?  The only reason I ask is because in the past, this topic always seemed to be covered in the Tribune - almost too often.  Now, we don't hear anything about it.
2.  Does anyone know if there's going to be any meetings with the Board and the public??
3.  Wasn't last year's parking fees supposed to go toward road upgrades throughout the park?  I was curious where those upgrades took place since I haven't been out to the park since July.

I saw this in a March Tribune article...it applies to part of #1 in a nonspecific kind of way...

Under the terms of the lease, Conneaut Lake Park — held in trust for the citizens of northwestern Pennsylvania since the late 1990s — also receives a share of the investment group’s revenues. Park Restoration LLC and Trustees of Conneaut Lake Park have declined to lay out the figures, but Sutterlin said the park receives “a substantial portion of the revenues. It’s actually very substantial.”

Save CLP: Post what you have here, even if people don't post, 1000's  ;D  lurk, so this is a good place to get the info out.

There is an events area and places to post pics. Just let us know whatcha want to do & we can walk you through it.

oh, and welcome!

Thanks....rather technologically challenged here....so whatever you can do to share the info, let me know.  I have a Wizards team photo, logos, etc.  The link posted a few pages ago goes to the clp site which will be updated with info, so that's a perfect place to link to.
For anyone local, Tuesday morning, Cool 101.7 will air an interview with our showman of the team and me, talking about the event.  The Teacher team is coming together very well (could REALLY use some Meadville teachers)  the other school districts have almost filled their roster spots.
And, even if you know families that aren't park supporters, it's an absolutely great family night, happening local, so you don't have to even care that it supports the Blue Streak, just bring the family out for a fun night.  The kids LOVE the players (on both teams).  I'm also setting up school visits with the Wizards players....the kids get SO excited when they meet these guys; they're just big kids anyways, and they're SO good with the kids.
So, talk it up, everyone...it's a win/win/win.  We all need to laugh a little more in our hectic, chaotic lives....

Plus for everyone who rents a room 5% goes directly to debt reduction on top of the percentage of the total the park gets for every room rented, every event held, and every drink sold.  Last I heard hotel room rentals were starting to pick up and I think they will benefit this year with nearly half the rooms now having A/C, heat and TVs.  I also heard pretty much every weekend this summer is booked with an event (wedding reception, class reunion etc) and sometimes two the same day.

"Hotel Conneaut Room Costs vary from 55.00 to $250.00 per  night plus 6% sales tax, 3% Hotel Excise Tax and 5% CLP debt reduction  fee."

I sure hope this Bill Gregg resignation stuff isn't in any way involved with the park.

Front page of today's Meadville Tribune - Bill Gregg is giving up his law practice.  The article mentions possible disbarment but if he resigns it won't happen.  He has been so involved for years with the park in a lot of different venues.  His latest was working with the people wanting to build the condos at the park property.

Longtime attorney Gregg resigns.  By Keith Gushard Meadville Tribune
A Conneaut Lake area attorney with three decades of experience has notified state officials he has resigned from the practice of law in Pennsylvania and intends to pursue other interests.
An order from the Pennsylvania Supreme Court issued Thursday stated the resignation William Jay Gregg from the Bar of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has been accepted.
"I've voluntarily resigned to pursue other avenues," Gregg said Friday.  "I have employment opportunities, but nothing is finalized yet."
Gregg, 54, of Conneaut Lake had filed a statement of resignation dated Jan. 14, 2010, according to the order.
Gregg has been an attorney in the Conneaut Lake area since 1980.  He has been involved in numerous cases including a potential rezoning issue three years ago involving Conneaut Lake Park.  Gregg represented developer Greg Sutterlin who wanted to purchase 3.6 acres of the amusement park's property and develop condominiums.
The disciplinary board of the state Supreme Court conducted an investigation of Gregg, but that case is now closed, Elain Bixler, secretary of the board, said Friday.
"I did not resign in any degree other than voluntarily," Gregg said.  "My getting out of law was a foregone conclusion for some time."
Gregg said he had been considering changing careers for several years.
Gregg said the disbarment has a stigma or a taint, but "that wasn't really how it came about," Gregg said.  "I have been practicing law for 30 years and never had a disciplinary charge against me."
Bixler said information relating to Gregg's disbarment is confidential because Gregg resigned.  The disciplinary case would become public if Gregg applies for reinstatement,  Bixler said.
There are no criminal case proceedings against Gregg, Francis Schultz, Crawford County's district attorney, said Friday.
The Supreme Court's order is final in 30 days - April 24, Bixler said.  Gregg could apply for reinstatement to the bar in Pennsylvania after five years, she said.
Gregg declined comment on the matter, but said he had been in the process of resigning for some time.
"I'm going in a different direction," he said of giving up his law practice.  "I'm burned out on it."
Gregg is a 1977 graduate of Bowling Green State University of Bowling Green, Ohio; and a 1980 graduate of the University of Akron School of Law, Akron, Ohio.  He was admitted to practice law in Crawford County in December 1980.

I guess I didn't read it that way....I would think if the state had anything solid against him, they would go thru with the charges regardless.....it sounds to me like he was investigated, they didn't find anything, and the case was closed....I've know Bill since he tended bar at the Beach Club in the mid 70's and he's always been very supportive of the Park and the lake area in general....and Janet, you do know those people he was working with to build condos are the same ones leasing the Hotel and Beach Club?

That was 3 years ago and it sounds like they did close the case on Gregg without pursuing further whatever the issue might have been.  Over his 30 year career I am sure he had thousands that requested his legal services.
