There is a nice article in The Herald, Fridays Edition, Sept. 3 about the Blue Streak by Ryan Smith. It's on the front cover.

Here are a few pictures of the Media Day Event.

Jack Moyers, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Conneaut Lake Park, and Lenny Adams of Structural Technologies - Both had a huge hand in making the Blue Streak run again. We owe them are thanks.

We do owe them our thanks, and for all of the hard work and dedication of the Trustees for getting the job done.. or started actually because there is still much to be done! For all the "constructive criticism" that goes on here, they rarely get the well-deserved pats on the back and "atta-boys" they should. But all of the CLP supporters and volunteers deserve a round of applause as well!

Finally, our Park is getting a well-deserved break.  Being lucky enough to have the Adams work on the coaster, the weather to get it done, the support to make the top spot in the Pepsi Refresh challenge, etc.  CLP isn't perfect, but it's moving forward, progressing, and very much alive.  We've got to fight hard for this park.  It will only mean good things for the whole area.  Congratulations everyone!

How was the attendance this weekend at the Park?  I hope they had ALOT of people, even though the economy is so bad.  It's been absolutly beautiful here at the beach since Earl moved out to sea Friday.  Blue skies the the ocean temperature is warm.  I miss  being at the Hotel though.  Hope you all had a great weekend.

Does a great coaster draw a crowd? What do you think? Pictures taken Sunday, Sept. 5.

Ticket lines were back to the marry-go-round a good part of the day.

Lines like this were common all day long.

                       Happy riders returning home.

These pictures give me really great goose bumps!  These prove
that all of us working for the same goal does work, and it is
worth all the blood, sweat, and tears we have all gone through.
Great job to everyone!  There is just one thing missing in this
whole picture--IC, we miss you, and I know you are smiling like
              the rest of us.

I had tears in my eyes this afternoon when I walked up to the park and saw the crowd....thats exactly what the lady needed, now if we can get a couple more weekends with that kind of attendance (Oktoberfest, Pumpkinfest) they can plan the next phase...Bill, was that you wearing the blue windbreaker? I was talking to Sarah I think when you took those pictures....

Nice to see the coaster running. I also noticed they painted the cars Gator colors (Orange & Blue!)

….Tig has never been on the BLUE STEAK, heck…..it’s been near thirty years since Gore has ridden  the STREAK;  but TIG was feeling the spirit of the STREAK up and running again and wanted to giv’er a try….

….so we saddled up after today’s bike ride to head out to give TIG a taste of old times past….

….as noted in recent weeks, The STREAK, build in ‘37, is one of two Ed Vittel-designed coasters still in existence in the world….

….the other one, by  interesting coincidental circumstance-

…..is the CYCLONE, at Lakeside Amusement Park here in the mile high (one of two amusement parks here!), which in another interesting coincidence,  was also rebuilt by Lenny Adams/
Structural Technologies back in ‘09  ….

….the common-thread of the Ed Vittel design between the coasters is evident in the aerial shot below-

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/7f/Lakeside_Park_Colorado_satellite_2004.jpg

….parking was $2.50, the ride was 50 cents, normally $3 but reduced for the holiday to compete against the annual TASTE OF COLORADO festival in downtown Denver this weekend, and

....I bought tickets for 3 rides anticipating getting a slew of pics with TIG enjoying celebrating from afar the return of the STREAK while riding on the STREAK’s distant sister coaster….

….while moving along in the Disney-esque queue waiting to board, in passing the ACE plaque for the CYCLONE, I mentioned to my fellow riders that the CYCLONE’s sister coaster just started running this weekend after a lengthy closure and rather extensive grassroots effort to build it and get it operating once again, to which the resounding response was…..

“…..que? ? ?
? ? ?….”

….we’ll chalk it up to the administration’s claims of deporting more illegal aliens than ever before….

….we rather relished the quite similar Vittel station design and tunnel-experience, and were excited heading up the hill anticipating the thrill first drop....

….now, it the ensuing  30 Years since last riding the STREAK, we’ve done some pretty exciting things, particularly in the recent years since retiring, many of which were notably physically demanding and grueling….

….we hadn't even started up the second hill (around a rather sharp steep-banked 180-degree side-slamming G-pulling turn), and TIG was yelling -

“……WHA-A-A-A-T IN  THE *-*-*-* WERE YOU THINK-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-N-N-N-G?.. ?.. ?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!....”

….rather re-educational in the near thirty years of riding those steel-framed urethane-wheeled Disney-esque coasters that one can lose the distinct memory of just how much an ED Vittel-designed coaster -

....literally  beats the living crap out you…..

....and seeing how the CYCLONE is the STREAK's younger sibling, this one beats you even more so-

....note to self-.......stick to spending 21 hours climbing the deadliest mountains in the state; it will be easier on the aging hairframe....

....kudos to all involved in once again getting the clank-
clank-clank-clank-clank-clank-clank filling the background noise at the north end of the lake.....

Jimmyt, yes that was probably me. I bought one of those ACE Coaster Classic blue tee shirts and was wearing a blue windbreaker. Very sorry I missed you. I'll catch up with you sooner or later.  Sir Gore, your pictures are terrific on our sister coaster. Tig is a lucky little guy getting a ride on the Cyclone. You can see a lot of similarities in the two coasters such as the bracing. Thanks for posting them.  Seems like everyone had cameras and were taking pictures of the Blue Streak yesterday.  People were even walking up the exit ramp taking pictures. I guess the Blue Streak holds a special place in the hearts of many people. Even the coaster crew was taking pictures of the crowd!

Maybe someone knows the answer to this question, but out of curiousity,
fixing the Blue Streak to run again, has anyone put a new value to it?  As
all businesses find out, when you add something like this, it raises the cost
of your liability insurance.

In the restaurant/bar business, your rates are figured on the previous
year's receipts, as the ins. co. does an audit before you get your new
rate.

This ride will undoubtedly raise their insurance, but from the looks of what
we saw this weekend, it will pay for itself over and over again.  Maybe now
the ones who refused to donate money, thinking it is a lost cause, will now
open their wallets.  If we would have had the 90 degree weather this past
weekend, it would have been wall-to-wall over there.  I feel like Christmas
came early to all of us who would not give up.
