Ad pledges dog food for each Vick tackle By Peter Mucha
Inquirer Staff Writer  Five sacks of dog food for every sack?
A heap of chow for each kapow?
Today, Main Line Animal Rescue, in an ad in the Washington Post, has put a pledge behind its distaste for Michael Vick, the convicted Bad Newz Kennels conspirator.
Each time the Eagles new gadget guy / backup quarterback is tackled during the Oct. 26 away game against the Redskins, five bags of dog food will be donated to a D.C. animal shelter.
"Because there are no second chances on an empty stomach," the ad says.
It also encourages people to volunteer at a shelter on game day, perhaps even "hugging a homeless Pit Bull."
Vick served 18 months in prison for funding a dog-fighting operation where pit bulls were killed.
In signing Vick to a two-year deal, the Eagles said he'd served his time and deserved a second chance.
"I think we're all getting tired of the 'Does he deserve a second chance?' kind of thing," said Bill Smith, founder and CEO of the shelter, which is near Valley Forge. "... Maybe it's about time that the million pit bulls euthanized every year got their second chance."
"It's such a misunderstood breed. ... They're great dogs," he said, adding they've gotten a terrible stigma "because of people like Michael Vick."
The ad's main aim is to bring attention back to the needs of dogs, he said.
"I think we just need to raise public awareness and this is a good way to do that," he said.
"It may be funny. It may be clever. It may not," he said.
The ad will probably also run in other cities where the Eagles play, including San Diego, Chicago and New York, he said. Washington was first simply because the Post was running a special football preview section.
Smith, skeptical of Vicks' newfound concern for pets, said that "if he had any sense of humor all" and really wanted to help dogs, he could stand on the field before the Oct. 26 game and let players tackle him, so even more dogs will get fed.
"He should thank us" for the opportunity, he said.

Help.  Our puppy has Parvovirus. We have been battling the symptoms diligently for 5 days now. Her stool has lost the "parvo stink," we have done IVs, anti-diarrheals, anti-emetics and anti-biotics. Currently she has a high fever that won't break, we think from secondary infection. I am forcing pedialyte with a syringe and Dad is giving her cold showers.  The vet sent me home with meds and an IV set up today (he is off tomorrow) in case I need it which I think I will, but I am just at a loss why she rallies and then has a set back. And frustrated. Anyone have any experience with stuff like this?

Hi Ami,
I am sorry, I do not have experience with Parvo, except that I know it's very serious for them.

I am sure you've been all over the net looking for answers by now. I Googled it and came up with lots of info, like : http://wolfcreekranch1.tripod.com/heal_parvo.html

Keep us posted.

Tks, Zip.  The vet (Brian Langdon) has been really great with helping us and also to save some $ along the way. I think the parvo is on its way out and she has something else now. Yesterday she was almost normal and today a big setback. I'll check the links.

Well, BIG FATTY and the little women finally got a cage full of Finches and they are something to just set and watch. They aint no cat or dog, but they are funny to watch. Hope they don't start nesting. The cage probably aint big nuff for that. But they are interesting to say the least.

Hi BF,

I had several Cutthroat Finches as pets when I was stationed in Korea. They were the source of many hours of enjoyable viewing, I am sure that you will be very happy with yours.

Enjoy,

Mr R

Great news Ami. You sounded so concerned in your last post that she had taken a downturn.

CLW:
The pictures are so cute! I know they're just "rodents" but squirrels are some of the cutest critters ever made.

Thanks all. Kirby is back to normal, and getting too big and too strong!! :)

Bighair.. we have had red squirrels and chipmunks in our house. Had the squirrel IN MY KITCHEN, in above the radio/CD player that is right next to where I sit on the pc!!  Then he ran into the STOVE.  We finally trapped him in a havaheart and got him out of the house.  They like my birdseed, but when they become too numerous, we trap them (again, havaheart) and then take them for a ride far away and release them.  They are pretty funny, tho. Just Not In The House!
