"Send congratulations from afar Zip! I know that takes a huge load off your plate, knowing you now have an advocate 'in the system'.

Retired Pgh Police Officer...Nice."

Up until now, it's been "Shiny's way or the highway." There was no where else to go. If you called the city police, they told you to call Shiny. If you went to the State Police, they referred you back to Shiny. The dog warden referred you to Shiny. I even went to the Sheriff, who referred me back to Shiny.

Every path led right to Shiny, and then he did whatever it was he did..... just what was it he did? Oh yes, I remember....he threatened me with arrest, threatened to file a lawsuit on me, filed a paper on me for banning me from ever reporting any more incidents of animal abuse to the CCHS unless in writing, (for supposedly verbally abusing his officer, which never happened), went to the local newspaper complaining that I was harassing him rather than to go help 5 houseless dogs I had photographed, refused to help a starving German Shepherd unless I made an appointment, and then never went to help rescue the 2nd abused German Shepherd, resulting in Regina and another rescue group from Erie having to come and help the poor dog.

In addition, he did not go out to help 3 starving dogs in a trailer, (one died), he made the 20 animals abandoned in the house wait until conditions were so bad that some had to be gassed, and so much more....

The things I can talk about are only things I have witnessed first hand. I can't talk about things people tell me. That's why it seems as though I keep rehashing the same old story, and calling it "my story" and need to preclude some things with "in my opinion". Some things, like the Tribune story, are not my opinion, but recorded and published.

What makes me personally happy is because of the paper from Shiny's attorney, there has always been a seed of doubt in people's mind about whether or not there was a real "reason" for him to take that kind of action. But a leopard can't change his spots.

My vindication is standing up for the truth, fighting the fight and now, finally, a place to go to (over his head) that's not a part of good old boy politics, where action will be taken, animals will be rescued in a timely manner, and the BS will stop. I feel as though I can breathe a sigh of relief.

Regina has always been upstanding, and now she is in a position to be sure things are handled here. The first stop is still the CCHS, but once she's sworn in to Crawford County it's not the ONLY stop. And even if she's never sworn in to Crawford County, (weird stuff happens here....) the paper trail from having called in the complaint will be at the State level, by people watching the CCHS who now know the story, and truly care.

Regina will be a paid employee w/ company vehicle equipped for rescue, she will be uniformed, and she will be armed.

Plus I think she gets a company issued flashlight.... LOL (we were joking about that)

I am really very excited for her, but more so for the benefit of animals in N/W PA.

Abusers... look out! Regina is on the job!

Yesterday a team of PSPCA officers (over near Philly) rescued 77 rabbits from abusive conditions. They get warrants, do everything by the book, and work as a team.

She's been training over that way and working with the PSPCA officers on seizures. She told me one story of a King Corso being starved in a back yard, and about dog fighting being a big problem.

Apparently they get smaller dogs (free ads in the newspapers) and starve them until they are very weak, then use them to train the fighters. The fighters in training gain confidence by being able to kill the weaker dog.

They also put the fighters in pens with porcupines and then leave the quills in their faces to "train" them to endure pain during a fight.

Fortunately there are people on the job helping to stop the madness.

After the final count and documenting, it wasn't 77 just rabbits, it was 64 animals - from rabbits and doves to exotic birds and dogs. ( a duck, a hamster, a turtle and more!!!)
Story here: http://www.philly.com/philly/news/pennsylvania/20100316_64_animals_removed_from_Fox_Chase_home_by_PSPCA.html

Some of the comments afterwards are funny.

Hi Zip.. the media got it wrong but I must admit it was hard to count and remove at the same time!  grand total 77 animals.. rabbits, cats, dogs, parrots, doves, 1 duck, gunie pigs - cockatiels.. all living with cock roaches and in filthy cages with 6-10 inches of feces in the cages and all over the floor.. the stench was horrid.. we called the licensing inspectors and the house has been posted unhabitable for human / and animal habitat! I gave the bulldog Chole a bath today.. she is such a seetheart.. The shelter here is awsome.. when I left at 2 am (paper work takes forever) every animal had a clean cage with fresh food and water. toys and veggies.. I am so impressed with this shelter.. it shows it can be done ;D   Ok, back to the streets.. thanks for the great words..

Here's a video of the rescue. Regina is the one with the black t-shirt and jeans carrying out cages towards the end of the clip.

I saw in the newspaper that the missing man was found in the lake. That was about the same time Scooter went missing, and people were also concerned about the man.

I hope Scooter has found a new home.

My goats figured out the doggy door on the barn.   This really caused some excitement for the dogs this week.  Had to do a little rearranging.

Hi Pest -- The humane society has a stray dog found 3/19 on S. Watson Run Road described as a female terrier, cream with black highlights on ears.   It's probably not Scooter as the age is listed as 12 years old, but just in case that could be a typo, you might want to give them a call.  They open Monday at noon.

 :)
