Thanks everyone.

On to a happier note, this web page has some pictures of unusual dog breeds. I found out my cousin adopted a Catahoula Leopard Dog from a shelter in Florida, where she lives.

You can find it here: http://happydoggieblog.wordpress.com/2009/03/09/top-10-strangest-looking-dogs/ along with the Bergamasco, Bedlington Terrier, Neapolitan Mastiff, and more.

A funny story:
The first time I ever saw a Komondor was when I lived in LA. it was night time, and I was turning my car around at a gas station near a residential area, and this dog wandered into the lot. It scared me half to death. I didn't know what it was! It was moving slowly, and looked like a mop, or a goat, or some weird thing. Once I realized it was a dog I was amazed at how his coat hung in those dreads! Neat looking dogs, but imagine all the time it takes to groom one!

I was there for 13 years, predominately in the Coldwater Canyon, or Studio City area. I was in Hollywood whren the "Rodney King" riots took place.

I lived in Redondo Beach (right by the pier) from 88 to 01. I spent 8 years working at the corner of Imperial and Crenshaw. The riots were ugly. Bet we'd have some some good stories to swap. I'm guessing you went to the Baked Potato a few times too.

Crenshaw.... Stevie's on the Strip. My ..oh my.. they had some good soul food! Peach cobbler to die for, and greens. I LOVE greens, done right. I heard they are no longer there.

Also Fatburgers... mmm. And Tommy's.

I miss the diversity of the foods one could find in the City. The best Thai, the best Indian, the best Mexican...

Here... sigh... no comparison. Yuen's on Rt 322 across from WalMart is my favorite for Chinese. They have some pretty tasty dishes.

Oh, and Lawrys... on LaCienega. And Ed Debevic's... such fun there!

Now... well, Mr. Zip likes my cooking. :) Guess it's all good. I really do miss the sunshine though.

Gads! A real Tommyburger with something that remotely resembled chili on top that would run through your system like a runaway train. Don't forget about Auny Kizzies Back Porch. Good stuff. I miss the sushi and noodle houses in Gardena, It was always an adventure being the only english speaking person in an eatery. I miss the home made tamales around the holidays, REAL wet burritos and a ton of other type of food too numerous to mention. I'd be happy with something from El Pollo Loco right about now, but instead I have meatloaf in the oven.

I miss all the events surrounding the NAMM show too.

I don't miss "drive time", standing in lines, the shallowness of a lot of people there along with other things. It's a metropolis though and you got to take the good with the bad. I Love LA, but I'm glad I'm not there any more.

El Pollo Loco! Fresh corn tortillas and tamales.

Best of times at Carlos and Charlies back in the late 80's in West Hollywood. I danced with Yakov Smirnoff and many other celebs and even some Laker athletes, drank fine brew, saw stand-up improv by a younger Jay Leno when he came out to test new material. Many other fun times there. I was peeeerty young... easily impressionable... not too bright, or I would have made more of the contacts I had then.

In Redondo Beach, on the pier was a place we would go listen to Jazz. I can't remember the name of it, but we saw Roy Ayers there several times, and others. I think there was a fire at the club, and I don't remember if they ever rebuilt it.

The entertainment in the city was the best.

I agree.... traffic was a nightmare. High rent, and later in the years having to be extremely careful all the time of absolutely everything, to make sure you weren't walking ito a dangerous situation of gang-bangers who were out looking for mischief, or parking next to someone who wanted to thump you on your head for your jewelry.

Oh sure, if you're extremely wealthy you can have your limo and bodyguard drop you off at the door of an event, but for us working class folks, things there had gotten pretty risky.

There's a lot to be said for the rural life.

The place was called "Under the Sea" I lived (literally) right about the boat docks on the north side of the pier. Probably 200 yards from the place. That is if we're talking about the same place. There was also a place called the Strand a littel further down the road that closed in the mid-90's. Great place! The worst seat in the house was 84 feet from the stage. I got lots of comp tickets! :)

I had to deal with the gang bangers on a daily basis when I worked in south central. I learned more culturally about how things were (perception or reality) than any stump jumper from Crawford County should know.

I'll bet it was the same place. I kept thinking "Down Under" like at the CLP Beach Club, but it didn't seem to fit.

Yes, the best concerts and seating ever. I saw Smokey Robinson, and Evelyn Champagne King, and BB King, (and more) all at small places like that. It really spoiled me. I won't go to a big staduim concert now unless the seats are premium.

The Warner Theater in Erie is nice for shows. I was just a spit away from Joe Walsh there. LOOOOOVE Joe!

Gangbangers:
We complain about the wars overseas, but there are wars right in the cities here, and the PDs are often overwhelmed. I don't have the answers... but that "change" we were promised needs to include a little something-something for that problem as well.

We should deport the gangbangers to Iraq & Afghanistan as 'special units' and grant them clemency on successfully taking out the bad guys.

LA/Detroit, serious problems, no answers from the government OR the people living there.

Not a bad plan at all Tife!  They should unload some of the prison system as well. Put 'em on a plane and make use of them!

Thanks, Believe it or not I thought of you several times during the process, because I knew you cared so much for Boogy. It's very difficult to have to make the choice, but certainly the humane and compassionate thing to do. I can't imagine how one feels after opting for pulling the plug on a person, even though you know it's for the best.

And for anyone wanting to know, the process is very gentle and peaceful. They gave him a shot to make him fall asleep, just as you or I would fall asleep after taking a sleeping pill, then they inserted a IV and gave him the lethal drug, which stopped his heart. No drama, no pain, no fighting or fear. We held him as he fell asleep, and right up until the end. He knew our love.

Which makes me soooo angry at the Crawford County Humane Society for gassing their unwanted animals to death, when there is a more humane alternative. Many of those dogs and cats were family pets at one time.

The problem with that is that they's so moronic they would kill each other over who has the most bullets or the nicest combat boots.
