NP how is Izzy...Doing...Do you have more Pictures... ??? ...

Zip how about yours...doing fine... ??? ...any pictures lately...

Both of mine are doing well. Thanks for asking. The big one is looking at me right now wondering if it's time for breakfast yet. He LOVES to eat, and eat. I have to be careful not to overfeed him. After he's finished with his, he goes over the the other dog's bowl and cleans up what he won't finish.

Both of them love raw carrots for treats, which is great because they're healthy, and not fattening. I give them the biggest carrots I can find at the grocery store. (Valesky's has good prices on large carrots) I just rinse them off and give them each one, whole.

The vet told me I had to trim the "Dirty Dog" down a bit. She recommended he loose 15 pounds, which is a lot for a dog! So... less junk treats and more healthy ones.

Reilly weighs 158 pounds. He could probably stand to lose a few too to help with his aging process. We have him on glucosamine to help with his joints.

I've been taking glucosamine too, and it seems to be helping my knee a lot. I can't take those "horse pills", so I buy the soft-chews from Walmart. It's kind of like eating a salty orange-flavored tootsie roll. Not exactly yummy, but if it helps, I'll eat them.

Anyone here have a particular vitamin supplement they love to take? I take many... 2 Flintstone "complete" every day, (doctor's orders.. believe it or not...) also B1, folic acid, zinc, magnesium, and more.

Good news... and not so good news.....

The good news is I got a phone call from the dog in the hot sun's people yesterday, and spoke with them today. They moved the igloo to the edge of the woods in the shade, so there's an improvement, though the dog is still chained.

Then they gave me a different dog they "didn't want" that I did take to help give the dog a second chance. He's beautiful, sweet, and very friendly. He's been chained his whole life. The woman told me her 18 year old daughter had him, then dumped him off on her father's property (they have a barn but he was chained to a doghouse) and left there. She said they had been feeding him, but no one had been to see him since last Thursday. So he's been barking like mad... (hello... he's probably barking for help..) and the neighbors have been complaining, so she called the Crawford County Humane Society for help and they told her that it was her dog since she's been feeding it... (sort of)... and they would not come to get this dog.

So I have it now. And he's been fed and watered, and he's had some treats, and he has a nice blanket to sleep on tonight, and I'll be looking for someone to love him and care for him ...or a shelter or a rescue for him... one that cares and can find him a nice home... and perhaps this dog can have a good life.

When someone does not take care of their responsibility it becomes the responsibility for us all.

When an "animal shelter" will not help a citizen with an animal in need, yet takes in donations from the public who believe that shelter is helping to rescue animals in need in their community.... what would YOU call that?

The Mission Statemet from the CCHS:

The primary purpose of the Crawford County Humane Society is to:

What a mixed blessing, Zip? What does the other dog look like? (Not that I'm in the market, we already have two large ones and that's enough).

He looks to be a Border Collie / Shepherd mix. He's about 2 years old, maybe 3. Black from head to toe with longish hair. He's real thin, matted right now, but very friendly. Happy to have someone care, I imagine. He jumped right in the van, laid right down and enjoyed the ride.

It's too early for me to try to bathe him. He'd likely think I was trying to drown him because he doesn't know me.

I'll try to take some pics tomorrow.

Interestingly enough we have been having some "challenges" in finding food that our puppy will eat. We suspected it was the texture/crunchiness thing because she would eat the canned or soft packaged food without any problem. However we wound up getting some Purina "Chef Michael's" that she would eat. She ran out and I had to go go the store to get some more food. I have never been a big Purina fan as they put a lot  of fillers in their food. So I talked to the owner of the store about the situation. She pointed me to a hard food called "Bil-Jac", extolled many of it's virtues and stated that if our puppy didn't like it to bring it back and we'd get a full refund. Okay, it's spendy  but it's worth a shot.

I brought it home, put it in a bowl side by side with the Purina. Pups completely ignored the Purina and woofed the Bil-Jac down like it was a tasty fillet.

So if the trend continues, this will be a permanent switch.
