A wonderful friend of ours, (Mike Kelly, USAF Retired) sent this to me.

Dear Civilians, 'We know that the current state of affairs in our great nation has many civilians up in arms and excited to join the military. For those of you who can't join, you can still lend a hand. Here are a few of the areas where we would like your assistance:

1. The next time you see any adults talking (or wearing a hat) during the playing of the National Anthem - kick their ass.  Even if they are related to the President

2.. When you witness, firsthand, someone burning the American Flag in protest - kick their ass.

3. Regardless of the rank they held while they served, pay the highest amount of respect to all veterans. If you see anyone doing otherwise, quietly pull them aside and explain how these veterans fought for the very freedom they bask in every second.  Enlighten them on the many sacrifices these veterans made to make this Nation great. Then hold them down while a disabled veteran kicks their ass.

4. If you were never in the military, DO NOT pretend that you were. Wearing battle dress uniforms (BDUs) or Jungle Fatigues, telling others that you used to be 'Special Forces'.  Collecting GI Joe memorabilia, might have been okay when you were seven years old, now, it will only make you look stupid and get your ass kicked.

5. Next time you come across an *Air Force* member, do not ask them, 'Do you fly a jet?' Not everyone in the Air Force is a pilot.  Such ignorance deserves an ass-kicking (children are exempt).

6. If you witness someone calling the *US Coast Guard* 'non-military', inform them of their mistake - and kick their ass.

7. Next time Old Glory (the US flag) prances by during a parade, get on your damn feet and pay homage to her by placing your hand over your heart.  Quietly thank the military member or veteran lucky enough to be carrying her - of course, failure to do either of those could earn you a severe ass-kicking.

9. 'Your mama wears combat boots' never made sense to me - stop saying it!  If she did, she would most likely be a vet and therefore would kick your ass!

10. Bin Laden and the Taliban are not Communists, so stop saying 'Let's go kill those Commies!' And stop asking us where he is!  Crystal balls are not standard issue in the military. That reminds me - if you see anyone calling those damn psychic phone numbers, let me know, so I can go kick their ass!

11. 'Flyboy' (*Air Force*), 'Jarhead' (*Marines*), 'Grunt' (*Army*), 'Squid' (*Navy*), 'Puddle Jumpers' (*Coast Guard*), etc., are terms of endearment we use describing each other.  Unless you are a service member or vet, you have not earned the right to use them. Using them could get your ass kicked..

12. Last, but not least, whether or not you become a member of the military, support our troops and their families. Every Thanksgiving and religious holiday that you enjoy with family and friends, please remember that there are literally thousands of soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen far from home wishing they could be with their families. Thank God for our military and the sacrifices they make every day. Without them, our Country would get it's ass kicked.

'It's the Veteran, not the reporter, who has given us the freedom of the press.'

'It's the Veteran, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech.'

'It's the Military who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag.'

AND ONE MORE:

13. If you ever see anyone singing the national anthem in Spanish - KICK THEIR ASS.

ONE LAST THING:

If you got this email and didn't pass it on - guess what - you deserve to get your ass kicked!

I sent this to you, because I didn't want to get my ass kicked.

WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, ONLY BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE!

IN GOD WE TRUST

....the law was recently changed to allow military veterans in civilian clothes to render the military salute during the national anthem and passing of the flag rather than removing their hats and placing their hands on their hearts ...

I have always loved that list and No. 1 has always been a pet peeve to me... Kids who do that but mostly ADULTS who do it.

I have a revision to No.2

Instructions on how to burn our flag in protest

1) wrap yourself in the flag, in an open area

2) Douse yourself with highly flammable liquid

3) allow someone to hand you a lit match

4) apply said match.

This may not stop someone from burning a flag but, I think that person will not do it again, it will create the spectacle they wanted and will amuse some with a light and sound show that may induce others not to try this practice.

This has been law for some time. I like it and yet.... out of inbedded respect.... many of us do it the old way. Some habits are just hard to break I guess. God Bless the Old Farts.

In my email today:

A few years after I was born, my Dad met a stranger who was new to our small Pennsylvania town.  From the beginning, Dad was fascinated with this enchanting newcomer and soon invited him to live with our family.  The stranger was quickly accepted and was around from then on.

As I grew up, I never questioned his place in my family.  In my young mind, he had a special niche.  My parents were complementary instructors:  Mom taught me good from evil, and Dad taught me to obey.  But the stranger ... he was our storyteller.  He would keep us spellbound for hours on end with adventures, mysteries and comedies.

If I wanted to know anything about politics, history or science, he always knew the answers about the past, understood the present and even seemed able to predict the future!  He took my family to the first major league ball game.  He made me laugh, and he made me cry.  The stranger never stopped talking, but Dad didn't seem to mind.

Sometimes, Mom would get up quietly while the rest of us were shushing each other to listen to what he had to say, and she would go to the kitchen for peace and quiet.  (I wonder now if she ever prayed for the stranger to leave.)

Dad ruled our household with certain moral convictions, but the stranger never felt obligated to honor them.  Profanity, for example, was not allowed in our home ... not from us, our friends or any visitors.  Our longtime visitor, however, got away with four-letter words that burned my ears and made my dad squirm and my mother blush.  My Dad didn't permit the liberal use of alcohol.  But the stranger encouraged us to try it on a regular basis.  He made cigarettes look cool, cigars manly and pipes distinguished.  He talked freely (much too freely!) about sex.  His comments were sometimes blatant, sometimes suggestive, and generally embarrassing.

I now know that my early concepts about relationships were influenced strongly by the stranger.  Time after time, he opposed the values of my parents, yet he was seldom rebuked ... and NEVER asked to leave.

More than fifty years have passed since the stranger moved in with our family.  He has blended right in and is not nearly as fascinating as he was at first.  If you could walk into my parents' living room today, you would find him still sitting over in his corner, waiting for someone to listen to him talk and watch him draw his pictures.

His name? .......

We just call him 'TV.'

He has a wife now....We call her 'Computer.'

Their first child is "Cell Phone".

Second child "I Pod"

I saw a photo of a Haitian woman (sadly in distress) wearing a head rag printed with the US flag. It just twisted my gut a bit.

I'm trapped in winter hell!!  No work tomorrow.  We probably won't go back until Wednesday.  I have a ton of slush on my driveway that is going to freeze solid over night.  Lovely!

Kimmi,,,,,,,take advantage of the situation. Do like I do when I'm in PA. Just put on a nice crockpot
of soup, take a nice hot bath, hit the thermostat a notch or two, jump into that nice big recliner with your warm robe on, turn on the tv to a good movie and enjoy all that comfort. All that nastiness will go away before you know it. Prolly before the movie is over!   ;D and warm hugs!

Well I haven't thought about food since my late lunch.  I'm attacking my third bedroom finally.  I'll have a ton of garbage tomorrow if I can get it to the curb.  That could be a different story!
