The Traveling Vietnam Memorial
« on: September 06, 2009, 12:15:11 PM »
Well I guess it takes a resident from Mercer County to make a remark.... Titusville!!!! Were your locals even aware the Memorial was at the Rocket's field???? I know your schools were..... I was there with a friend who was a scheduled speaker on Friday.... The VFW initially did the heavy lifting to get this memorial brought to your fair town. There was a lot of hard work to get it there and there was a lot of fundraising to pay for it. I was very surprised at the amount needed for it and even more surprised at the amount they brought in to set this all up. They did a very good job. There are many entities who have "Walls" that travel around the world and it was great that your area could have it there. Usuallt large municipalities get it but you did well. Kudos.

I know this is "Labor Day" weekend but this is a chance to see something for "FREE" and actually learn a bit as well as take it in.... As the tv ad says..... "JUST DO IT!!!"

It's in Titusville?  Did the tribune just choose to ignore this or were they unaware of it? It was in my town a few years ago (I believe there are several of the) and it was an emotional event to see people looking for names and breaking into tears when the found them. There was also a lot of upbeat conversation as well listening to people share stories about that segment of their life.

....there have been numerous traveling walls over the years run by several organizations....

....currently, I'm aware of 3 traveling walls- 2 half-sized, and one 3/5s size....

....they all have the same deserving contemplative/reflective impact...

The "Wall" was in Saybrook Township Park, in Ohio, last week. I remember going to see it when it was first in the area, 23yrs ago, and I made sure to go back this time to see it again. It is a very moving experience even if you don't have loved ones listed on there. I took the time to find the names of the couple of people that I did know and was actually surprised to find out that we had a total of 29 individuals from Ashtabula County that are listed on the wall. It is really something that deserves the time you may take out of your day to go and pay tribute to those who may have unfortunately been listed.
