Where to get the local news?
« on: November 25, 2009, 04:17:08 PM »
Ok--so being broke and having your cable shut off is not the end of the world...frustrating but the $60 per month is needed elsewhere (food, utilities etc). The oldest is reading more and that is a wonderful thing. I am getting more done and that is a wonderful thing, too. I MISS watching the telly and seeing the local (Erie) news. Is there anywhere online that one can go to and watch the news? I am going to www.hulu.com to watch telly shows that I would like to see (within reason) cuz it is free...any other ideas? I get the Trib but we all know that is not enough to satisfy the newshungry appetite...

If you are a news junkie like I am and want to save money.... try this site

http://www.ipl.org/div/news/

I get to read papers from all over the world as well as national and local.. Have used this for years. More than papers here... books, magazines etc.

All the local channels have websites that post the stories they have on TV to their sites. Just look around - there's a lot you'll find. Personally - I like Google's News page for everything else. they post just about everything.

You can go to www.goerie.com and get the Erie Times info.

MSNBC has video news stories if you prefer to watch rather than read. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8004316/

And you can watch your favorite (past) episodes of Grey's Anatomy and lots of other shows here:

I'd much rather lose my TV than my internet. You can get so much on the net now.

A good router will get your TV on the 'net - so hulu and everything else will be on the big screen too!

Hubby is looking at some device that will allow us to hook the computer into the tv...for now the kids crowd around the small computer screen to watch a program or two...kind of cracks me up and reminds me of the scenerios of kids sitting on the floor listening to the radio.

We were contemplating getting the package from Windstream that bundles the long distance, internet and a dish...now I am not so sure we really want the dish...I will have to check on price differences to see if it will be worth it.

Stereo RF Modulator.... If your computer has an SD plug.... the Modulator can be added to a TV that doesn't and the two can be plugged together. Most newer Computers and TV's have the connections.. If you have a more modern TV and Computer.... the HDMI connections can be used.

I use to have dial-up with Infinity and they became part of Windstream and seemed to disappear from our area. I liked the local server at that time because I always believed in the "choke factor". When I call and have a problem and the person on the other end is rude... I was able to get to their office in less than 5 minutes and asking to see the person I was just on the phone with. The problem always seemed to be corrected with no problems then.

There's a lot of devices out there Olive. Pricing is all over the map too. Do your research.
