If you want to live in a country where the government is telling you what you can and can not do in your own home then sit back and let it happen.  I do not want anyone telling me what I can do in the confines of my own home.  It is NOT for the government to tell me what is good for me OR my children.  That is up to me.  There are responsible smokers who step out on their back steps to smoke because they have kids.  There are thoughtful smokers who step away/around the corner of the building to smoke away from doors and passersby.  Others need you or me to say "hey, do you mind?"  And they will comply.  I think banning smoking in public places has been a very good thing.  I think most smokers think it is the right thing to do as well.  I have yet to have asmoker bitch too much about it other than the inconvenience of going outside to a designated area in the rain or cold......they know it is bad for their health and for those around them that do not smoke.  Hey, it's been known for decades (at least) that cigarettes will kill you.  If you don't quit or think you're immortal, I'm sorry.....something is going to get you....cancer, COPD, emphysema, etc.  Smoking was made socially acceptable a long time ago....the government is now working to protect the rights of non-smokers in public places.  Very cool. But DO NOTtell me what I can do in my own home!  That is the point.

Curious.... where do YOU live? Just a state or area would suffice. PA isn't the only state with this type of "mentality". nor is it indicative of city or country dwelling. UTAH.... hmmmm Mormons.... I had a DOCTOR who treated me here years back. We got along well.... he was a "OMG Survivalist". He quit his practice and ....took his family back to UTAH. Yes... he was a Mormon and yes.... he had tons O guns. But he was a good doctor and even he felt infringed on.
 
I didn't justify smoking, nor do I justify drug use and yes... even BAD behavior. You seem to think if you hide...all the bad things go away. You wake up sometimes and find it has found you. I feel bad because your child has that malady and can understand.
 
There are people who go into siesures from too much perfume in the air or even walking near Diesels. I have even gotten Sun Poisoning ( Hospitalized )  and at times in my life I was as brown as mahogony and spent the whole day in sunlite without much more than sweat or babyoil. Now I cover up to prevent what becomes a very bad situation. Go figure.
 
My point is..there is NO PLACE to run... There are levels of taking a stand.... start with activity in the political process...voting... attending meetings on things important to you and the ones you love. If you have the urge...even run for office, but run for the right and reasonable reasons... not the samo samo. Your house is your house.... all I am saying is that it should remain that way. We are ALLOWING a lot of strange stuff, thinking "it can't affect me". I think that is flawed thought... no more, no less.
 
 

Cigarettes kill. I buried both my parents after horrible illnesses that stripped them of their dignity and their life. Banning cigarettes in cars and homes protects innocent children from their dumb ass self centered selfish parents who won't do the right thing.

Don't try to justify your position by defending smoking.

My son has RAD (Reactive Airway Disease), where certain things (smoking especially) can set off an attack where he can barely breathe. Trust me when I say that nobody around my son has a 'right' to smoke and I make damn sure they are aware of my sons rights to breathe.

Lets just kill 'em all and let God sort it out.

I'm just sick and damn well tired of all the freakin' complaining and finger pointing. Life sucks and then you die.

Move into a cabin in the woods with your 'lead' and rice. Hope that makes y'all happy. There's a lot of reasons I left PA and this type of thinking was what I was glad to get away from.

It's funny when folks start talkin' about rights  . . . cuz when you think about it, they're very very arbitrary. I don't see 'rights' as being anything we're entitled to at all. What we have when we're born is opportunity - where we live and "who's in charge" determine the rest.

I don't believe in 'God given' rights as history shows that there's WIDE interpretation of that idea.

I think TiFe's son should have the opportunity to breathe fresh air whereever he goes and hopefully others will have the courtesy to extend that opportunity to him.

I hope that I will continue to have the opportunity to heat my home with wood, effectively and inexpensively without the Federal Government labeling my chimney a climatological hazard and thusly penalizing me for it . . . which limits my opportunity to do other things with my money (or time) because they've messed with my opportunity.

Rights?

Nah - we as a species don't have rights - anyomore than a water buffalo on the African savannah has rights.

What we have is the opportunity to survive and thrive - how we choose to do it is (individually or collectively) what makes the difference.

From my favorite group I see! (First concert I ever went to was Rush, tour of the hemispheres back when they had no assigned seating at the civic arena. I worked my way up to 6 rows from the stage....boy when the heat bombs accompanying the music went off you REALLY felt it at that short distance)

As we sit here waiting for Uncle Sugar to make ALL the rules that we live by and all in the premise of "being for our own good" and this is classic.... "for the children"....I put this out as interesting....
 
Hmmm this happened BEFORE the 1970's report that we were having GLOBAL COOLING with a ton of scientists crying we were headed towards another ice age...

I saw Kiss at DarienLake about - oh - 12 or so years ago?  They opened for Aerosmith........and put them to shame.  One of the best shows ever.

Talk about old.I saw a lot of pre-KISS acts at the Dreamland Ball Room back in the 60's. Freddy Cannon, 4 Seasons ect.
