The Community News offers instantly downloadable newspaper.
« on: March 06, 2010, 07:27:39 AM »
The Community News, which has it's office in Linesville but serves all of Western Crawford County, has launched it's Digital Newspaper this weekend.

The Digital Edition is a 3 to 4 Megabyte .pdf file that opens in Adobe Reader. It includes the entire newspapers, all the stories, articles, photos and ads. The electronic print quality is really quite good. Text can be zoomed in for easy reading and photos can be printed.

This offering will be especially useful for those who have moved away from the area but still want to keep up with the local goings on.

Visit The Community News web site for not only the Digital Edition but the large amount of free and current content.

Thank You

Surprisingly, it's been hours since your post... i would have expected several people to whine by now, "but you have to pay for it."

Otherwise, congratulations on implementing another way to serve your local and distant readers.

Thanks for the "Congrats," Jayhawk. We have wanted to offer the entire newspaper online for a while now and it feels really good to have it launched.

We have right along been offering front page stories and some of the best columns, such as Lisa's Rants and Raves, free on the web site.

The Community News will continue to offer quality content for all, at no charge. We would like to put more photographs online too. We have so many that are never in the paper that would be great to share.

...but, alas...the Digital Edition has the same subscription fees as the hard copy and due to PayPal fees the Single Copy is almost twice what the news stand price is.

Of course ideas and suggestions are always welcome.

Thank You
Tom

From my perspective I think news feeds would be nice, either atom (preferred) or rss.

Thanks for the Welcome NightmarePatrol and Thank You for the suggestion.

I really hate to admit it but I pretty much miss the boat on RSS.

I have an easy choice between RSS 2 and atom. Since you suggested it, which do you prefer?

RSS 2 is up now.

Well, the Community News is entitled to make a buck. Doing it in the newspaper business is hard enough, especially in the online game.

Comunnity News is not as good as it was when it was the "Linesville Herald". Too much boring BS like "Horsin around", coin talk,  and other personal columns. I like the news correspondants info from other little communities. School photos of kids always seem to be of Conneautville and Linesville school kids. Very seldom any of the Conneaut Lake kids.
I'd like to see some historical articals of the local areas. Also some oral interviews with the longstanding area residents of what used to be in this area. When was the store and depot  at Center Road built, who was the first owner, who was the operater at the depot? How many trains a day went thru our local towns? Two or three trains of different companies went thru Andover. What were they? How about Meadville Junction where the Bessemer went thru. It had a "WY" to turn trains, it also was the entrance to Conneaut Lake Park, had a big hotel and restaurant! Yeh,,, just a little north of Shermansville (about a mile). So much more about our area that most of todays folks never new. Some of our little towns in our area thrived really well till modernization moved in. Did you know that Harmonsburg had 4 gas stations, one hardware store, one grocery store a highschool that burned and was replaced with a new grade school, two churches, a meat market, civic club, fire dept., a cheese factory, post office in several different houses,  barber shop, beauty shop, two old timers that repaired the very old time autos, one dentist a trolly that ran from Linesville to Meandville via Harmonsburg. The trolly barn still sits on the corner. This is just one example. There is much more in the surrounding area. The M&L line ran from Linesville to Meadville Junction and on thru to Meadville. The old tresstle abutments are still standing behind the Linesville  High school and one on townline road at the twin ponds.
Yep, I'd love to read about this type of things historically rather than some of the things I mentioned earlier. Rants and raves are ok I suppose but some of the other things are pretty dry and not too interesting unless you own a horse. Huh? :)

CindyLouWho, Thank You for the warm welcome! :)

Locknuts, What great suggestions! I'll make sure the Editor sees your post.

I agree that there is an interest in local history. The Linesville Historical Society has been building a great resource for at least a year now. The Linesville Cemetery among others has been "mapped" with advanced software for Genealogy researchers.

The old Arnold House / Arlington Hotel, now The Knickerbocker has a nicely prepared History of The Knickerbocker page.

I live in Linesville, so I am aware of these but I'm sure other areas have impressive resources as well. I know there are competent historical researchers in our area.

Thanks again

And what a nice little feature story it was.  I was very surprised to see the EE Ticket.com logo on page 10.  Thought it was an interesting article.  Hopefully it will turn out beneficial for both EE & CN.

tlink211, Out of curiosity, what is the circulation of the Community News.  Enjoy reading it every week.  Can't believe Linesville will pass the new property maintenance code.  That will give you plenty to write about.
