Enjoyed tonights session II very much.  Loved how he connected with the young man with cooking lessons, so genuine.  Am enjoying this whole movement, hope he does well.

I liked the second episode too.  It was really disappointing that the 6 year olds didn't know what a tomato was.  And it can't be blamed on living in a city and not seeing gardens.  These kids live in WV.

With my recent weight loss (13.7lbs) I have now moved out of obese to over weight.  I have 26 lbs to lose to be in the normal range.  I haven't weighed that since my sophomore year in college.  I'm going to try hard.  Our insurance company just changed our insurance and put smokers and people with a BMI of 40 or more on an automatic 70/30.

I think kids should be getting cholesterol panels every five years or so.  My friend in college was skinny as a rail and ate like crap.  She had really high cholesterol.  If convenience foods continue to be a staple, then it is probably needed.

Funny how the insurance companies automatically put people categorized as "high risk" info different brackets. Then they talk about all their wellness programs which are never promoted unless they cost extra. One would think they would offer up some kind of carrot (pun intended) for people to lose weight, lower their cholesterol, stop smoking, etc. But no, most anything that will help people change is not covered or minimally covered. There's a certain irony there. Yep, you're a walking time  bomb so we're going to charge you more. We could help, but we don't want to spend the $500 up front to save  5K or more in 10 years. Oh well, you'll be at another job or retired by then and it won't be their problem.

They'd rather roll the bones...

BTW... don't even think the new health care plan is going to change that either!

What irritates me the most is that my insurance covers things like gastric bypass surgery but doesn't reimburse for gym memberships or things like that.

NP, the statistical and predictive analysis the Ins. Co.'s do is so sophisticated they know who the risk customers are and how much of a premium to charge so that they don't lose anything.
The health risk is assumed by the individual.

I spent eight years working for a HMO Puff. I know lots of their dirty little secrets, especially where risk management comes in to play.

Kimmi: that sucks. Like I said before, the BMI doesn't take into account that the more muscle mass you gain, the more you will weigh! I think it is ludicrous that they use BMI to set rates.

I am in an HMO that DOES give reimbursements for gym memberships, and all well visits are covered 100%. Just another reason for me to move back here.

Good luck on the weight loss, and keep taking Spin classes!
