Was the Keystone ever a superfund site, what with all the nitrates and acids used in explosive Mfg?

Projects of these type are always under the scrutiny just about everyone. Yes, there a good reason for it. Ko-Shin, that area has been tagged an industrial park for at least 40 plus years. The industrial thing never materialized like Mr K would have liked it to.

That being said, I'm sure that there will be many watchful eyes insuring the crossing of all the T's and dotting of all the eyes takes place. Moreover, because of the nature of the facility it will be under intense scrutiny from construction through its eventual decommissioning, whenever that may be.

Absolutely...and I would hope that all of your elected officials will keep an EYE or Two on this project and make sure that all is held to strict standards and above...and I hope that all that live in the surrounding area keeps their EYE on this project to make sure that all is followed to what is said...

I am saying is that Pennsylvania (like PNP stated)...makes it very hard to own a business...and to have a company come and try...also produce local decent paying jobs...I would follow what is happening...help support...as to make sure that they do not destroy the environment...in the process...but I am sure that this company will be held to the highest standards and above...IMO...

Now Don't Stop to Smell the Roses...and then Bitch about Being Late...to where you were going...Most want a piece of the Pie...but Most do not want to take the Time to Bake the Pie... :D ...

Not everyone will be happy...and you never will make everyone happy...that is what makes life interesting...but I would bet if this company does not get Local Support...they will move elsewhere...Quickly...and then there goes the Jobs for that Area...and then all the Locals can go back to Bitching about their local economy...

Now everyone should Wake Up...Support Companies in this Country...Support Creating Jobs...Support the Local Progress and Economy...

Again I am not saying support anyone...if they...the companies are putting anyone at risk...but you can make sure that they don't...Watch-Full Eyes...Participate...Get Involved...IMO... ;) ...

I would imagine that many of the posters on this
blog are all old enough to belong to AARP, right?
(I'm kinda joking, but still a serious)

The point I am going after is:  when we were all
growing up, we had plants like Avtex, MFG, PPG,
Talon, Dad's, Tel-O-Post, etc. that hired most
of Crawford County.  Warner Ladder in Greenville,
some big plants in Erie and Ashtabula, and they
all probably had emissions that could create
health problems.

Now, here is another point:  Of all of the people
that are against this plant, DO YOU SMOKE
CIGARETTES?  If so, you are creating second-hand smoke that can kill a non-smoker like me.

The lady that was so vocal against the new plant
is a landscaper architect.  If she works with the
ground and plants, they require chemicals to feed
them to make them look so beautiful.  My uncle
was a landscaper at a local college, and he died
from Scleroderma, which the doctors attributed
to the chemicals used in the landscaping, etc.
Get my point?

Right now, the Sept. 11th rescue people have bad
lungs, the miners have bad lungs, and probably
each job could create some type of health problem if someone wanted to nit-pik it to death.
However, these people choose their professions,
and they are well aware of the risks involved.

If we keep fighting to keep every new business
out of this area, (and there are not that many
good jobs left anyhow), then we may as well give
up.

The landscaper told Mr. Rubino that she would get
every taxpayer in Greenwood Twp. to support
keeping this project out of Crawford County.  I
think she said maybe 57 taxpayers?  Opinions are
like --------, everyone has one.  I know that I can find 58 without any trouble at all to get paid
$50,000.00 per year in Crawford County.  Keep in
mind two things we can't change:  we all die, and
we all pay taxes.

Actually, I got my AARP card around my 55th
birthday, and it really SUCKED.  Where did the
years go?

The one thing that bothered me about this whole
meeting this past week was that it was not
advertised enough.  I am going to call Mark Turner
this week and ask him to have Greg Rubino come
back down and find a big enough room to have
enough seating for everyone who has questions,
concerns, etc.  Maybe somewhere like the Shafer
Auditorium or Meadville High School gym.

Mr. Rubino knows his facts, puts them out there,
with no b.s., and you can either believe him, or
you don't have to.  Erie fought it, and now they
have people complaining about the jobs they lost.
Can't win for losing.  Right now, I am more worried
about the little man in Iran than I am about what
Greg Rubino has in mind.  We need to watch out
for our children and their children, but we can't
control everything.

If I don't sell the Pit & Pub, it will definitely be moved out of Sadsbury Twp.  See how much
power a Planning Commission can do to a business?  I have checked some places in Summit
Twp., and I would be located closer, but not IN
the park, just closer.  Summit Twp. is where I
grew up, and they are very user friendly.

What do you mean, PnP? You would reopen at a different location?

NP, thanks for the links. I am of the mind that if someone wants to bring a business to CC, we should seriously consider it as we dearly need new jobs and to grow the local economy.

Yes, but it would be my son taking it over.  I have
looked at several smaller venues, but am reluctant
to do anything until the auction of the restaurant.

If someone with deep pockets and has alot of help to actually put the time in with knowledgeable contractors, the current building
could at least revamp to make it work.  It kills me
that we can't do it, but I hope someone will step
forward and keep it going.  As much as I want the
Pit & Pub to keep open, it won't be with me as   the owner.  I never thought I had the ability to
be as angry as I am on what we were not told.

But, I will be honest with anyone who
is interested in what needs to be done.  In the
meantime, the Ramaley family misses the heck
out of the really good customers and friends that
we made there.  We used to take our grandson
in after the dinner crowd left, and they would
all spoil him rotten.  At 18 months, it now takes
a barful of people just to keep an eye on him,
but he is really a hoot!  Not spoiled at all.  His
little sister, Leah, just turned 3 months, and I
think she will be the quiet one.

We need more jobs than the minumum wage restaurant and retail ones...our area has the "brain drain" going on...get your education and get the heck out of here mentality and for good reason...something has to change.

Ya know,,,,any new business in our area causes a chain reaction in most cases. This new tire business at the KOW states that they need rail service to their facility. Right now there is rail service that goes right up there and into the park to service John-Mansville and PPG. It is there already. A new business within that park could possibly cause the Railroad to have to hire some new people also by taking cars to and from the new plant. After doing that would the WNY&PA railroad have to hire some new people also? This is the effect of a new business. Normally one hand washes the other. Every little bit helps our local economy.
Of course being retired, some would say why does he care? I care because I have children and grandchildren that have to have jobs just as I did to stay in our home area. We love this area and they don't want to leave either. They left professional jobs in North Carolina to come back home. I say it is very important that we weigh all the issues before a decision is made. Once your toe is cut off, it doesn't grow back!  ;D

You are so right Lock.  There is a chain reaction.....any place creating any kind of jobs is a good thing....growth will attract others to come and/or stay.....both people and  more business.   And the  local businesses that are already here will get business from this new plant.....be it janitorial supplies from aplace like Desantis or toilet paper and hand towels for the restrooms.....vending machines.....paper and whatnot for the offices.....Not to mention the supplies they will need to get the place raised!  Concrete, bricks, tile, wood, nails, metal - that list is a mile long.  Will they hire locals to build?  Hope so.  Those are decent paying jobs.  The train comes through a couple times a day.....maybe that will be more now with the amount of tires they are talking.  Definately a chain reaction.  With the unemployment rate in this area....which is higher than the state average, it doesn't matter what kind of jobs we get, we just need jobs.   It's a start.

I see a smattering of "Stop the Tire Burning Plant" signs amidst the political signs that have sprung up at major intersections.

Placed by people who either have good jobs or a good deal of money?  I wonder.

Or people who do not know all of the issues involved. From what I read it looks like it would be a doable thing, expelling steam. But we all need to know more and learn more about it. The benefits could outweight the risks. If that area is zoned as inductrial, no one would want to build there (and no one has the money to build anymore lol) so let it stay industrial and welcome such businesses.

I remember looking at a house near the old Avtex building and as much as we wanted it, the instincts said not to buy it as it was an industrial area and probably left toxins behind--way before the days that anyone really knew too much ore regulated those issues.

The land surrounding Keystone on the same side is all privately owned.....by one person if I am not mistaken.   I think there are maybe two houses on that entire stretch of road on the opposite side.  There is almost nobody out there except ppg and the army base.

Avtex was a superfund site - I work there now in a refurbished area that's an office.

No side effects at all - save that I'm my own night light . . .

LMAO!!

One thing to work there...another thing to live there, drink the water all the time, wash your clothing, hang out in the back yard by the power lines (we were looking at the houses across teh street).  Hmmmm...remind me that you possess bioluminescene the next time I have a party and you will be the hit of our festivities!!
