Need Pool Advice
« on: April 20, 2010, 12:22:02 AM »
We are thinking about purchasing a pool this summer. We are leaning towards one of those round ones that has a steel frame that will last a few years. Is it better to go thru a dealer? Can you just get a good quality one in the stores and put it up and expect it to last? Cost is an issue and we want to get the most bang for our buck.

Does anyone have a retailer to suggest if we need to go that route?

I would recommend a dealer. There are a LOT of things that you need and don't realize you need and you need an expert to help you out. Just the chemical mix can be a nightmare.

I shopped around on the internet and the dealers pices were still competitive or better, and it's much more convenient. They will also do water sample analysis for you so you can keep the grunge away before it gets out of control.

In the past 10 or 15 years, 3 of my close neighbors have installed above-ground pools, one of them particularly large with a fancy deck.

The big one was removed last year, another one just came down last month, and the third will sit unused again this season. Apparently the novelty wears off quickly.

Frankly, there just aren't enough hot, dry days around here to justify having a pool at home IMO...especially when there are perfectly good public pools--not to mention natural bodies of water--available nearby for that purpose.

YOU GOT A POOL????   ;D

Post your address please *S*  ;)

Hmmmmmm is there a "P" in pool? *S*

Seriously, good luck. I have one friend who plowed in his in-the-ground and another who is planning the same. They would rather mow it than clean and feed it. Like a boat.... the two happiest days are when you buy it and the day it comes to an end/or sold.

After much research and visits to dealers, we are using a dealer in Meadville to purchase a small, above ground basic pool without any bells or whistles....I know that we should do more practical things with the money, but.....lol

I have chronic pain issues and swimming in the one thing that helps me immensely. The kids and I live in the water in the summer--we will swim perhaps 5 to 6 days a week. I am really excited.

Probably for the same reasons the convertables fell of in sales. Plus we don't really have the weather for one. I've had my top down maybe three time in the last three years. ::)

I had a small above ground pool years ago. If you have the time and energy to keep up after it - it's great! Thing is - it used to be one of those things I thought about a lot though. We didn't have a fence 'round our yard so - are the neighbor kids gettin' in it? Are there drunks out there at 3am?

The only reason I'd have a pool is to keep excess fish in until I am ready to eat them and fire protection.

Pools also work for bathing and potable water when the power goes out. Like after a hurricane.

The area is fenced off and you cannot get into the fenced area unless you go through our house and out the garage door. Unless you are amazingly agile and can scale the 6 ft high fence. I guess it could be done. No drunks in our neighborhood...perhaps only the ones that stay at home and get lit.
