Right, until the relief well is completed and cemented in it's not over. Good news that the oil has been stopped, but the pressure it's containing is 10-12000 psi. What a letdown if it later starts to fail.
Thats a big hurdle passed anyway. Now the lawyers start doin their thing

Concern. They are not getting the pressure levels they thought they should see.
There are reasons that this could happen, but they cannot rule in or out anything.
Here is Adm. Allens conference today. (audio only, no video. 21 minute)

And the only good news out of this is that it's projected to be just a tropical storm. I seriously don't know how it going to not intensify to a hurricane with the gulf water temperature being at 91 degrees... but I hope it doesn't.

That being said, a lot depends on where the storm passes in relation to the spill itself. It could push the oil in any direction. The strongest part of a storm is always the northeast side,  By Saturday night we'll have a really good idea where it's going to go.

NP, it looks like you guys got some rain.Per the forecast it's headin for us. Sometime Monday/Tues morning. Looks like rain and some wind.
Not good for the gulf coast though. 8 ft wave height & 2-4ft storm surge expected at landfall.

We got some rain, but not much. The NHC says they may drop all watches and warnings on Bonnie later today believing that it my begin to dissipate. At this moment it's only packing 30 mph winds which doesn't even make it a tropical storm. There will be some movement in the oil no doubt but for now this looks like a bullet dodged. In a week we'll know what the fallout is.

Now we are shook up again....  :o

The rig is 100 miles off the coast

It has yet to show any appreciable oil leak if any

It is 350 feet...not deepwater rig...

It is a non producing rig right now....

Happily all of the crew got off alive...

Do we have an actual cause of the fire.... equipment or was it "Operator's Headspace???"  A person sneaking a smoke in an unauthorized area??? or poor disposal of flamable items???

So much we DON'T know and so quick people are ready to say "SEE!!!!" I am a believer in drilling for oil.... NOT one person has come up with a viable, affordable alternative. I also believe in coal. I as well as most of you read and use the computer from coal power. We have NIMBY's who don't want oil, coal or nuclear at all. They think wind and solar is the answer and we are not even close to that without my Government Tax Dollars rebating people who go into these programs and as been stated.... the initial input of cash does NOT guarantee a return on the investment as shown with Electric Companies who seem to NOT be required to take back the Power from these devices and the initial savings versus maintenance costs. In a time when a dollar is more transparent (Stretched thin) than our own Government... be prepared for even tighter times.

They are building cars for us to buy... Electric, that will cost us $40,000 plus...we are to get a rebate but.... who will be able to afford new batteries when the ones in the car die or are damaged AFTER the Warranty...God forbid you become the SECOND owner. It all looks pretty on paper but needs to be more thought out. Let's not jump to a conclusion on this oil rig and allow it to become another "reason" to not drill at all.

Here is a thought from me.... If it could happen.... drill a well on my property...if I don't get royalties, it may employ a neighbor or two.... put a prison in my back yard.... my house will be the LAST place they will find a criminal or an escape prisoner..... and trash dump? ??? Talk to the people of Virginia Beach and their "Mount Trashmore". Hell I would live next door to a nuclear powerplant if it meant my electricity didn't cost my whole income. And the property values might be a plus in the pocket of buyers... LOL

I am just being facetious in a lot of this but only to the level of our need to understand the whole picture.  ;)

..."It's unbelievable," said Sophie Esch, 28, a Tulane graduate student  from Berlin. "They should finally stop drilling in the Gulf. They should  shut down all the drilling out there and not give permission to do any  more. They've shown that it's just unsafe."...

....just a hunch-

....Ms. Esch has a couple shelves of school trophies for placing in the bottom quartile of her class mates for her efforts to date which she proudly displays....
