Hey, people pay good money for poop! Milorganite is one of the best fertilizers around and it's human poo. You can get it at Lowes or Home Depot. I wouldn't poop in anyones garden for free. :D

We have several neighbors come on over with 20 gallon buckets for horse poop lately.  My next door neighbor says it does wonders for her roses.  I put it on the garden in the fall and add lots of compost in the spring.

What you are talking about is "sludge" from a Sewer treatment plant and it goes through processing.... Human Feces are not good fertilzer because of the pathogens that are in them. I know this because....... I ate in many villages during my "vacation" in South East Asia in the 60s and 70s, gave me more than a few problems with the lower GI tract... one of which was Amoebic Dysentery. Maladies that indigenous people have a natural resistance to, are easily picked up by stupid 19 year olds. They collected and fertilized their crops with raw human feces.
I use to live on my uncle's farm in the summer. When younger, they didn't have running water unless you ran for it at the pump or well. We had to use the outdoor privy and when full.... you dug another hole in another location and put the outhouse over that one. Now you had to cover in the "old hole". He would often...for just the He!! of it.... plant cabbage on the mound... They grew HUGE and the heads were very large. Rule was always.... not pickable and not edible.

Here is a good rule.... watered down herbavores make the best fertilizer... but never raw. Best to guard your garden... a perimeter made of POO made of carnivores... the scent keeps the veggie eaters out. ZOO POO from the large cats is a good guard... Hippo, elephant, zebra, etc. great for the garden.

Some circuses will give you the POO but I think zoos seel theirs. Picturing a groundhog's reaction to a perimeter of Tiger/Lion Crap LOL...

So... be picky of the POO you UOOSE.

Some idiot recently wrote into the Herald trying to make a lame argument that the fact that Tom Lavorini isn't planning to move to Sharon means that nobody is willing to move into Sharon, even for a $70k job.  I checked Howard Hanna's website (which features the listings of almost all local realtors through multi-list service) and found a number of homes pending sale that are easily in the purchasing range of said salary:

1080 Alcoma -- $139,950
1263 Ashton -- $135,000
1232 Highland -- $119,900
1000 George -- $74,000
1363 Glenwood -- $72,900
718 Spencer -- $69,900

So I guess at least a few brave souls are willing to brave these wild streets...and they're doing so voluntarily!

And there are many more affordable ones where those came from.

The talk is of a $70,000 salary, but isn't the current guy getting closer to 50? I remember this because i remember hearing that oil city and a couple similar, smaller towns (maybe even greenville) were in the 60 range or higher.

Indeed.  I just included the ones that were currently marked "Contingent," meaning that--gasp!--some schlep has actually signed a purchase agreement.

According to this Vindicator article, Lavorini's salary is $67,500.

Lavorini's salary is $67,500.

For some reason i thought the initial home-rule committee talk was of 70-80K but that they had settled closer to 50. $67.5 is a reasonable salary for the job.

Several downtown streets (including State St.) were just paved, Dock St. and Rt. 62 are undergoing major makeovers, and the city just secured funding to pave Stambaugh Ave.

Nice try, though.  Thanks for playing!

And council just tightened the rules for utilities digging up streets, though it's unclear if it will prevent the secondary mess we had on top of detours this year.
