Definitely good news for Farrell, UPMC Horizon, and for local health care.

good news in general. But you can start to see why health care costs are rising when every local hospital has to have major specialty units that previously were found in big-city hospitals.

Oh, it's a great thing not to have to go to pgh or erie or cleveland for heart or cancer care. But SRHS already has a cancer care center 3 miles away in hermitage -- which it is in the process of expanding to the tune of several million. If they wanted to duplicate, at least put it in greenville 15 miles away to serve a radius of patients up there, not fight with SRHS for the same patients.

there are several other specialty areas where both hospital systems (and this happens in similar towns elsewhere) each have to have one of everything. It might be convenient, but someone somewhere somehow is paying for it.

I agree... and the Veteran's Administration is trying to do just that locally.... to allow local Vets to utilize the SRHS Campus instead of traveling to Butler and the Burgh. We can now use the Imaging center and starting with fee base, the other facilities... hopefully we will have the full use of the Cancer Center, Cardiac, Diabetic and anything else offered at the campus.

The bad thingis that some insurances with PPOs don't allow you the choices. It seems to be the fault of the Insurance providers and not the Med Facilities. Use to be some Med Ins didn't allow use of both Ost. and MD.... now they seem to have combinations for them and Chiro..... even Alternative like Holistic and Accupunture... go figure... UPMC here was SVOH. It seems the more complicated you make the system, you definately make it more expensive for all parties... provider, facility and patient.
