The Herald needs a fact-checker...
« on: June 26, 2010, 12:06:21 PM »
...but then again, we already knew that, right?

In its apparent zeal to publicize a business moving from Sharon to Hermitage, the Herald published an article today about "Sharon's" Flynn's Tire buying the old L&M/Dairy Queen building and planning to relocate there in September.  Only problem is that Flynn's "Sharon" store is actually in Hermitage.  So they're really moving to Hermitage...from Hermitage.  Oops.

Them...Sneakie...Bastards...

 :D

The correction was printed today, with the headline "Relocating tire store is in Hermitage, barely."  Funny how that "barely" distinction has never prevented the Herald from reminding us again and again which community is the geographical home of Buhl Park, Avalon Country Club, and Oakwood Cemetery...

Good ones... let me add about Oakwood.... It is true, you can be born, go to school, work??, raise a family in Sharon, but...you can't (legally) be buried here. This is the interesting part...Oakwood Cemetery... the business office that you file paperwork and PAY your hard earned money to bury a body IS in Sharon...600 N. Oakland... But the "garden you plant in" is indeed HERMITAGE. Sharon takes the money, Hermitage gets the..... well you fill it in. We had a cemetery many years ago on the West Hill but some wrangling with a local doctor got it moved to it's present location...outside of the city borders.

Like many businesses that go back to the days when that area was the edge of rural farm country, part of the problem is flynn's itself. Flynn's has always used nothing but "sharon" in its advertising on on its web site, even though it would have been paying several times more property taxes if the building was a few hundred feet further west. And if the place ever caught fire or got robbed, hermitage would be the departments they'd need to call.
