Does anyone know how much money is taken in at the gates and if so who counts it. How often is it taken to the office and who counts it there?   ???

Not me.

Anyone know what it's like for the Park?

Well, even though this situation with Mr. Wagner smells a little fishy, I am hoping for the best possible outcome and have decided to keep the innocent until proven guilty frame of mind..  I would hate for him to be guilty.  It would affect so many people in a painful way starting with his wife/family and on down the line.  It would be a shame after all of those years of service to have to leave office without the public's respect.

The editorial in today's Tribune was excellent.  I didn't think they had it in them.

I was hoping that someone would find a way to link the article.  It basically said that Wagner should have excused himself while being investigated.  It also was critical of the audit not being completed, and the issues with the prison board.  Said that he was very wrong for still participating with the fair.
I had to laugh out loud when someone said they were going to the fair and pay their admission with buns.  Priceless.

Another article in the editorials about this subject.  The Tribune is surprising me very much, they are reporting it very well.

"It would be a shame after all of those years of service to have to leave office without the public's respect."

Years of service?......In the instance of the County Treasurer's office, it's called a JOB.  The military is a service because of the threat of death.  Volunteering is a service because you are not paid.  He is an elected official, elected to do a JOB.

I say, where there is smoke there is fire...although in a legal sense, I agree that he is innocent until proven guilty.  I just wonder where the trial will be held.  I would hope that is outside of Crawford County.

I see your point ...but waitressing is a service, hairdressing is a service, Treasurer is a public service job.

I see your point, as well.  Being an accountant is a service, being an auto repair person is a service, being a garbage collector is a service, being an airline pilot is a service.  Every job I have had has been a service to others... why else would I get paid for it?  My point is that when most people use the phrase "a service", they imply that this is something someone does that is over and above being paid for it.  Fred Wagner was paid to do a job.  It was a service just like the garbage collector, or the tax collector, or the policeman, or the fireman provided a service.  And in the private sector, just like the accountant or the hardware store owner or the farmer at the market, or the local plumber provided a service.  And he should be held accountable, like all people should be.

People, wake up.

Every now and then -- more then than now -- there truly are people who sincerely and selflessly hold public office for the only purpose of furthering the civic good, of making the community a better place for all.

On the national level, they included the likes of a now-gone group of moderate senators who could cut through the partisanship and strike compromises rather than spin their wheels making every issue a black or white fake controversy.

Locally, they might be the paternal judge with the wisdom of solomon, or the respected school board member who served without pay for decades because he truly believed in making sure the community offered a solid educational foundation for the next generation.

But nowadays most "public servants" sit in a safely elected position, pulling down far better salary and benefits than a comparable administrator or bureaucrat in the private sector. No matter what most say, it's a job, a safe job, and making the world a better place is low on their true list of priorities for holding the position. No matter what they say at election time.

Real public servants are those who donate their time and skills -- the CPA who does the books for the PTO, the retired executive who head the zoning board, the retired professional athlete who coaches midget football.

Everyone else may be doing civic good, but when you're paid, you're not a volunteer.

My thoughts are with Fred and the Crawford County Fair Board, and I hope there will be a favorable outcome for all in the end.

Well, there won't be a need for a trial.  They just announced on the news
that Fred committed suicide this afternoon in his garage.
