Way too bad! I am sorry to hear this news. It reminds me of when Budd Dwyer did the same thing. If he was innocent, why didn't he stick around and prove it. It is very sad. :o :(

With the way this whole story went down, Sherman Allen did not even know, and he is a commissioner.  The fair board believed in Fred enough
that they kept him in as Treasurer.  I have a feeling that this will bring
alot of turmoil into Crawford County for a long, long time.  There is a big
horse show at the fairgrounds this weekend, and it will be just another
cloud over it, just like at the fair.  Fred always treated me kindly, and I
am not going to judge him.  It is sad that we will only hear one side of
this whole story now, unless the proof is 100% against him and can't be
challenged.

I feel like I am yelling in a forest of fallen trees - if a tree falls in a forest and no one is around is there a sound?  This is not personal.  This is procedure.  This is accounting accountability.  How very sad.  There is no money that can equate a life.  This is not personal.

I guess Fred took it personally. What a poor reflection on the county, too.

I also thought of Budd Dwyer when I heard this.  How very sad.

This is such sad news. Fred made it possible for the local bands to take the stage this year. He provided the initial opportunity along with the rest of the Fair Board members who voted in favor of the event. But Fred was my contact guy throughout, and while I have no personal knowledge of his accountings, I really liked him, and like the Fair Board, I had faith in his personal character. I didn't know him well, but what I did know, he seemed like a straight up kind of guy.

So sad to see you go, Fred.

Well - when hope stops . . . sometimes a person can develop tunnel vision for one solution. That's unfortunate. I feel sad for his family and friends. Suicide doesn't provide any answers - just more questions for those left to pick up the pieces.

I saw him at PNC bank last Friday, and after he got done, I went up
to him, shook his hand, and told him that I and alot of people are
behind him and believe in him.  He put 39 years into that job, and
now we will only hear the story that certain people want us to hear.
All coins have two sides.  Rest in peace, Fred, I will miss seeing you
behind a desk always full of paperwork.

Wanda you are mixing the person with the act.  Why can't anyone understand what I am trying to say.

During the American Jam in August, Fred and I had a nice conversation in the catering trailer. He told me he had done nothing wrong and I believed him. We talked about patriotism, honor, our youth, and I am sad now to know he was feeling so hopeless.

He had a doctor present during his hearing. Perhaps there is more to the story than the recent accusations. Terminal illness could also cause one to dispair to suicide.

I understand.
But he was accused of theft, not of "improper procedure". Big difference.
