The PA State Legislature

Interesting article in the Inquirer. Perhaps deficit reduction could start right here - ya think?

The Pa. unemployment rate is 9.2% (latest figure I could find).
Immediately trim all staffs and budgets by 9.2%

We're at just under 12% down here last I heard.  Times are not getting any better it seems.

Government figures are nice but... this does NOT reflect those who are UNDER employed ( can be worse for them to get into programs ) and those who just gave up. Some figures, over all, can show 15 to 20+ percent. All still a long way from a "worse case scenario" outline of "8.5%". Go figure.......

The stats only reflect those who are actively looking for a job. Many people have just plain given up. So yes, in reality the numbers are worse than published.

Oh, great. There's so many of those hard-working political appointees who need to go that it will notch up unemployment by a percentage point.

Seriously, it's incomprehensible that even a single legislator could have a support staff that costs as much as the payroll of a small business. And as the recent grand jury report showed, on their days off they double as the campaign staff. Then get state bonuses for being such hard workers.

Only a state constitutional convention will create the major, structural changes in the legislature that are long overdue. They certainly aren't going to do it themselves.

Isn't that only counting the people who still qualify for benefits?  I
think the figure is around 15.6% if you count the ones whose benefits have run out.  We vote in less than a month, and this is
going to be an interesting election.

All of this crap has to stop..... OUR OWN Government has been feeding us this Strawberry dream crap and we are eating it... Any idiot with fingers can go on the internet and look for  or 5 sources of news and pick out what is close in each...somewhere in there is something close to the truth..... FACT we are and have been on average in DOUBLE DIGIT UNEMPLOYMENT. You have to look at the NEW CLAIMS BUT.... you also have to take into consideration TEMPS, underemployed and those who have just plain gave up and are eyeing another program.... like Welfare and Food Stamps.

We are hearing OH BOY the Housing Market sales went up 4.3%... HEY GOMER!!!!!  Check out what is being sold and why..... In my Hood...a slumlord can have $100,000 worth of money and collateral and buy 5....say 5 houses.... We are in a renter economy and it is crappy as well.... Crappy homes going for too damned much rent.... When the bubble was bursting in the Housing Market Cesspool.... I remember BRAND NEW BUILT NEVER LIVE IN HOMES were being demolished. A home gone back to scrap. Anyone who sees a plus in this..... maybe a trip to Sears is in order. First POS idea was the $8000+ tax break ....so that tells me the homes were overpriced in the first place and then..... the Cash For Clunkers that killed the used car market for those who can't afford a new car as well as parts to keep their PAID FOR older car on the road. We are a bunch of HUNGRY LEMMINGS who just want to die with a full stomach and no thought on the whole program. If you want something for free...... inhale....air is still free.....for now. The main way this all works.... is this.... do you want this to hurt now.... or later??? either way.... the pain is coming.... remember ...we are ALL on the same boat...the only difference is at which deck you are as it sinks.

If I sound cynical, sorry 'bout dat, but until I hit the POWER BALL... I will see all of this the same way. Until true things happen and not the BS we are fed..... so goes this ship. You can't make lemonade out of lemons and drink it when you are underwater. My regret is that I am forced to leave my Grand Kids this mess after my dirt nap commences.

 ::)  *sigh*
Average unemployment. It depends on where you live and what your skills are. Both factors that are solely determined by the indiviual. Not the government, whether it be Dem/Rep/Lib/Tea...whatever. If there are no jobs in your area...MOVE. If your skills are outdated...LEARN. You can get Mirosoft Certified in *something* in less than a year and at least pick up a crappy entry level IT job. There's a nursing shortage. Same deal, enroll in a program and within a year or so you have a new marketable skill.

*sigh* I'm sorry all the mills closed and te toola nd die industry collapsed behind the auto industry. But for example, Meadville used to be the main corset manufacturer for the US until that industry collapsed.
