Guardian Angels
« on: August 22, 2010, 12:07:27 PM »
I'm surprised this hasn't come up yet, but does anybody have any thoughts about the guardian angels opening up shop in Meadville. The trib posted this article almost a week a go. Has the crime in Meadville gotten bad enough to warrant their presence?

Thoughts anyone?

Meh. I suppose if it helps, that'd be Ok. Vigilantism has it's drawbacks.

I think it is a great idea, and yes it is needed.  There are a few hot spots in and around town that need some attention.

I don't think it is Vigilantism but I am wondering how we have gotten to this point that we needed an outside organization to help our citizens find their gonads in the first place. The root of a lot of this is the ability of criminals to freely and "unobserved" come into our neighborhoods in the first place. We all need to read the police reports each day and learn from which house in our neighborhoods, trouble comes from and keep an eye open. I commend and it proves this works..... Pittsburgh... shooting at a kid's football game....

If he didn't do this, these sleaseballs might never have been fingered. Around here, a criminal act is knowingly witnessed but for lack of GONADS " no one saw a thing". Our neighborhoods get this way because we do one of two things.... we keep our mouths shut and we bail out like rats on a ship.... only to find out later...where you planted new roots are filling up with the very scum you tried to run away from. No truer word were spoken than these...

"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing."

"You can run but you can't hide" ... is a double edged sword.

So if it takes the Angels to help you locate your gonads... that is ok, as long as you don't lose them again. If you don't want outsiders to teach you what to do... talk to the people you have already... Police...either local or State. Always remember...if you are going to be pushed and you move back a step...you will find your arse will become flush with an immovable wall and no where to go... Now you have to make a choice and running isn't an option. Your Choice.??????

I don't like it to get to that point, I like to keep my options open. The law is not on our side anymore, if I do something or retaliate, I get thrown in the slammer, game over. Thugs run free. There needs to be a change in the laws and a PR campaign to let the bad boys know the game is over....
Hot spots in Meadville?!?! WHERE?!?!

Hmmmm.....maybe we are basing our ideas of the Guardian Angels from old movies and/or TV?  idk  Went to their website and here is their mission statement.  Doesn't sound at all like vigilantism.

The Reality
Every day, we receive calls and letters from individuals pleading for help to overcome violence in their worlds. These calls only confirm the increases in violence, harassment, and intimidation reported daily in newspapers and research surveys. Bullies, predators, and gangs, in increasing numbers, are creating fear and danger in our communities. The perpetrators lurk in schools, neighborhoods, streets, subways and the Internet.

The Dream
That all children will enjoy a safe environment in which they can rise to their full potential and develop self-esteem, confidence and pride of accomplishment through a contribution and commitment to society.

The Goal
To motivate teachers, parents and children to create a safer, more powerful future through our programs focused on personal safety, civic contribution, value development and cyber security. To bring violence prevention programs to schools across America for the benefit of students, families, and teachers. To serve as a resource for training teachers in violence prevention at institutions of higher learning.

The Plan
Through increased partnership with educational, business, cultural and religious institutions in our communities, we will solidify and expand our pragmatic and positive role model programs. We will expand and enhance our programs focused on personal safety, neighborhood safety, cyberspace safety and civility, with a special emphasis on overcoming social and educational adversity. In concert with our nation's schools, we will continue our groundbreaking work to develop curricula illustrating and documenting the benefits of violence prevention.

I like how "The Goal" is phrased.

Why would teachers be motivated first?

Because our society is now ass fucking backward.

There were some Guardian Angels here 15+ years ago, weren't there? I remember seeing several people in the jackets and berets when we first moved here.

Neighborhood watch group with berets? I agree with the concept but I don't think the perps are going to back down because they are being given 'non-violent conflict resolution'.
We need more cops and we need to pay them a living wage. How many police does Meadville proper have? It used to be 2 cars at Mr.Donut. Allegheny rent a cops don't count.

Meadville crime stats by year. Just numbers to me since I did no comparison, but maybe of interest to someone.

Ko-Shin: We agree!!! We Agree!!!  :wahoo:
Ditto on the neighborhood watch. I watch my neighbors mostly, some of their teenage kids are a bit sketchy. I say that as a formy 'sketchy teenager' townie that used to troll the alleys of Meadville after curfew...  ;)

I hate to say it but I think it is true. Kids and teens are into more crime today for the need(?)or want of drugs and drug money. As a kid I never would have guessed that a girl would steal until my sister got caught stealing a five cent popcicle. She was with an older cousin. She was three and bragged about the deal at the supper table. Well, she didn't get a chance to finish her supper as Dad took her immediately down to the store to apologise and pay for the stolen item. That's the way my Dad was. He was a good and honest man!
Drugs and alcohol are the downfall of our country.  :(

When you think of all the risks a cop has to endure on a daily basis, he is not paid nearly enough money. Would you put your life on the line for a few measly bucks. No you wouldn't and neither would I! As far as I'm concerned he can eat all the donuts he wants. 8)

Lock: I was just pin pointing their location. We always knew where to find 'em! Plus, that was back when people actually went downtown at night (Academy theatre, Movies across the street from Mr.Donut., Mr. DONUT!!!, Razzies/2001 Club, Snooty Fox...Carriage shop...)
