When I was a kid, the "Guardian Angel" was my father's belt. It started there, and usually ended there.... or ended on the "end", ~bass ackwards as it may have been.

When you think of all the risks a cop has to endure on a daily basis, he is not paid nearly enough money. Would you put your life on the line for a few measly bucks. No you wouldn't and neither would I! As far as I'm concerned he can eat all the donuts he wants. 8)

Cops are the best. Who else runs towards danger when everyone else is running away? Cops, Firemen, EMT Workers, soldiers...

One day recently, in a local store,  I heard a woman tell her unruly child that she'd better behave or the police will come and get her.

Well... you all know me.... do the right thing....

I had to tell her how wrong she was for making her child afraid of the police.
"What if your child needs help?" I asked her. "Who will she go to if she's afraid of the policeman?"

Of course the woman didn't want to hear it, but maybe next time she'll think about what she's doing.

They never want to hear it.  Ugh.  I intervened when a mother was literally holding her maybe 3 y.o. up in the air by one wrist and beating his ass for the whole world to see in the middle of the grocery store.  Conneaut Lake Golden Dawn - yeeeeears ago.  The kid was screaming and she was yelling at him.  I was MORTIFIED.  I ran up to them saying "What in the hell are you doing?!?!?!  Stop!!!!"  She yelled at me that it was none of my business - that I had no right to tell her what to do - yada yada, yada....well I called really loud for help (no need....small store) and she dropped the kid to the floor and I was hysterical - PISSED OFF mad - telling the lady what was going on  (on the floor trying to scoop the kid up while she is kicking at me to get the hell away from her son)    She had seen just enough of it and had already told someone to call 911.  Cops were there before I could even process it.  People amaze me.   I don't know WHY they amaze me but they do.

My daughter is a police officer and some of the worst times for her are when children are involved.  They had one time when a man used a baby as a shield while shooting was going on.

Let the snipers do their job. I have no sympathy or use for anyone that would use a child as a human shield. That's the parent in me coming out. The humanitarian side says oh the poor victim of society need to be helped and guided back to being a moral pillar of society.

Daddy always wins though.

Someone asked about the "hot spots"  - I would say that one of them is Theadore's.  Another is lower S. Main Street.

Theodores: Is it still across from the old Mr. Donut? Seriously, they just need to arm the bartenders and waitresses.
Lower South Main Street: From the Diamond, it's maybe 11 blocks (and only about a 1/2 mile). The top portion is only 2 blocks from Park/Chestnut.

Hire a couple of bicycle cops for the whole quadrant, they could probably patrol a lot more. S.Main street is probably my favorite spot in Meadville outside of Greendale.

Wow - today a double stabbing - car robbery and lots of intense drama.  Glad I wasn't anywhere near it.

Got this info from WSEE - not sure how accurate - they said there was a double stabbing near Tamarack Lake and then the perp was downtown and there was stolen car involved.  Went onto the Meadville Tribune website and they had a short blurb about it.  Will hear more on the news tonight.

I had to laugh at this.... a number of years back, Sharon bought a few bicycles for this very thing. The Chief at the time, was in reasonable shape and actually took to riding one for a while.... but most of the officers were just to..... portly to look decent in lycra and beanie to let the program last any length of time. I suspect there are very expensive bicycles stored in a dusty corner of the city garage, never to see light of day until sold or given away. So much for lean and Green I guess.

I suspect they would have been better off buying Segways. I know some police depts. in tourist areas bought them. Oh well....

I seriously doubt the GA's would have been hanging out at Tammarack Lake though. Either there's something fishy about that or the perp is a pretty disturbed individual. Could be both too.

Meadville used to have a bicycle cop. I thought it was great. But I didn't see anyone on two wheels this summer.

So this incident at Tamarack - do we know if the perp was known to the victim(s) or not?

We don't at this point. The police may know that, but if they do they haven't said. It may just be a random incident but... it smells fishy to me. The victims were from Columbus, Ohio. They drove the perp to a parking lot at Tammarack where he attacked them and stole their car? Something doesn't ring right to me.
