Mr. Ripley:
I have a question that I have a strange feeling is going to be answered quite well by members of this board.

If a house gets razed in Mercer County does the contractor have to get a permit from the courthouse? How about if a sidewalk or a section of roadway gets torn up? Excavations??

If so is are these record available for public inspection, and if so at what office?

What say you JimV?, Lifetime? Jayhawk? Grok?

I must have fell asleep in civics class.

Not sure if this isn't a city thing but I bet if you called the courthouse and talk to Mike DeForest, or email him, he might be of help on this. He handles the tax part and I think yanking a building out has a bit of a determination on the property taxes... so he may know some of the regulations...

Sidewalk probably doesn't require anything. Excavations require permit in cities; sharon recently tightened the rules about when and how fast fixed after the water company fiasco of this summer.

Pretty sure any such permits are public documents open to any citizen to look at.

My numerous demolitions/deconstructions required a permit in Sharon (I obtained mine from the code office). Any contractors performing work in the city of Sharon are supposed to have a license. Entities such as Sereday's who do demo of city properties for the city may have a special arrangement but I do not know this for sure. I hope this helps.
