The new way to screw with a country
« on: September 23, 2010, 07:51:49 PM »
Okay, it's not really new. A virus embedded in an HP printer brought down Iraq's air defenses in the first gulf war, but this piece of engineered malware is HIGHLY specific. I have no doubt someone paid some very good money to have this developed. That being said, something like this could happen a LOT of places that aren't locked down.

Iran has a number of enemies. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it was someone from the general 'hood.

Well Iran did something really stupid in running microsoft operating systems in mission critical environments. Every DOD and other sensitive site in the US and most other countries have a no removable media policy. USB sticks, rewritable optical drives, etc are strictly forbidden. I'm sure that there will be lots research done to find out where this came from. The Iranians of course will have to figure out how it got there.

What I find most interesting is that they did not have the safeguards in place to prevent such a thing from happening. That has probably changed already though.
