The clean plate is a cultural thing here it seems. If you thing the cheesecake factory gives you large portions go hit up a buca di beppo or a claim jumper. It's grazing at a whole new level. That and we are using corn syrup instead of sugar. remember when soft drinks actually had sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup in them?

I said the world is eating better. I should have said the availability of quality food is better. On the opposite side of the coin however because we are producing so much food and either mishandle it or screw with it in other ways we have more food born illnesses than we ever have (except for pork it seems) Our dietary habits just plain suck. People now skip breakfast, have crap for lunch and usually a hefty dinner and go park their fanny on a couch for several hours watching TV and eating chips or something similar. What's worse is we're teaching our kids the same habits. I try and cook for the family every night and you know what, sometimes it sucks being in the kitchen preparing food and sometime I do cave and go get a pizza and an occasional happy meal if the kids whine about it enough.

Yes, there is an abundance of food available that is good, but it's not cheap. Ans yes, better nutrition is available today than was back in our grandparents day. Most people just don't choose it. What would you rather have, the free range organic 6 ounce steak, baked tater, veggie and some water at home for about $8 or a burger king double whopper with cheese, fries and a bladder buster sized pop for just under $7? Most people will say "screw the work, I'll just go out and grab something." I'll take the former and work for my meal thank you.

Man-o-man-alive, am I a pontificating ass tonight or what?

It might be the horrific couple of weeks I've had at work talking too. Too many days and nights staring at a monitor worrying about crap.

Saw an interesting report this evening. A doc has office workers standing and walking on a very slow treadmill while they work. They all lost weight and feel better for it. Intro showed how we went from hunter/gatherer/farmer to industrial to tech lifestyles. I think it was on abc world news tonight. Interesting idea.

Looking at changing my work station to a standing one at work. Some folks are sittin' on large exercise balls. We'll see. The walkin' thing is cool - but - not all that practical . . . .

....when I was at the kiddie jail it was a monumentally challenging job given the  mix of having to work face to face with 65 kids in the numerous residential pods, all the while having to complete an avalanche of mandatory paperwork/forms  of which was never handy, and without having an office from which to work....

....it caused a high turn-over rate with struggling/overwhelmed staff as there was just never enough time to get everything that needed to be completed done....

....it wasn't but a couple of months before the ideas came together in the chrome-dome, and sawdust began to fly in the mile high shop-

....a stand up work-desk,  solid oak, on casters, rolled everywhere I needed to be, it
had everything I needed ergonomically with in arm's reach to get the job done, plus a bevy of technological inclusions that streamlined and improved efficiency tremendously....

....I went for a year before the 10-12 hour no-lunch, no-break days started to be come just a bit too much, so I modified an Oak Express bar stool
to be able occasionally take a load off the feet as I rolled from residential pod to pod-

....it worked out quite nicely in every sense and it made the long days go a lot faster; and it quickly seemed that all desks should be stand up....

....the command desk here in the mile-high-bunker is a stand-up at 38"-

.... all the bench work in the shop is at 43"-

....and the railroad starts  at 48" above the floor"....

....that stand-up work space can be a bit addict once you sample it;  and my aging back loves it...

I can modify my work station to be stand up - but I haven't gotten "their" permission yet as there honestly seems to be no 'they.' So - guess I'm just gonna have to do it.

How can you possibly play with trains without a TV set in that room, too? Or is it just out of the view?

gore your chrome dome is a genius! Tell us, did you leave the rolling desk at the kiddie jail or did you bring it home with you? Seems you could have made money by building desks for your former co-workers....

Here is the doc's version:  http://www.treadmill-desk.com/

....more like Mr. Whip-pill ; that inside of the right door.....pre-printed color-coded writing assignments to cover the common behavior infractions, plus the time to have the kid stand there and read it to me; one thing kids hate-

....is having to write, and hate even more-

....having to read their writing  ....

How can you possibly play with trains without a TV set in that room, too? ...

....goes against the entire grain of the desired relaxing distraction of the train room; though, I do have a stereo under the layout. Had the  TV in the shop for a while, but it didn't see much use so I yanked it and don't miss it....

... did you leave the rolling desk at the kiddie jail or did you bring it home with you? Seems you could have made money by building desks for your former co-workers...

....sold it to a co-worker who gave to her hubby, for his birthday, that was looking for a desk at home; she got a good deal on it, plus free delivery.

....not much money in building desks for co-workers as, then, there was absolutely no reason to hide behind in not getting all their work completed....

Dumb co-workers. They would have set a great example for the kiddie inmates if they did their work on time!!

Anakin sits next to never at his desk at school, but his cart is not tall enough for his 6'2" frame. I bet a taller desk would help him!
