antique mirror

GROK:
i recently acquired a large antique mirror at a local auction that was  purportedly from a Meadville hotel or bar. It may have come from the Dave Mead inn. Anyone have any input/history?

Puffin:
post a picture, maybe someone will remember it.

Jayhawk:
I believe the David Mead Inn was a community-owned hotel not unlike Sharon's former Shenango Inn. Both were built in the 1950s and both are today assisted living homes for seniors.

it also could have come from the actual home of david mead, founder of the 'ville, which would make it far more historic.

GROK:
I suspect that given the intricacy of the carvings and the workmanship of the piece that it is much older than the 1950's. I would date it to somewhere between 1880-1920 but that is just my amateur guesstimate. When I asked the daughter at the estate sale, she was unable to specify the origin other than it purportedly came from a Meadville hotel or bar. The tie-in to David Mead Inn was that her mother had worked there in days past and it may have originated there but again with the age of the piece and your provided history, I doubt that it would have only been produced in the 1950s.

n.b. Special thanks to NP for helping me embed the photos. BTW The room shown was where they had the mirror at the estate sale. It was one heavy sucker to move but I had my brother-in-law and my wife take one end and I the other and it worked out fine!

PK_OH:
I don't know where it came from but I have to say that mirror is gorgeous!
Congratulations to you on a great find.
