Draft? We still have registration to the Draft. That never stopped...Gee I wonder why? I have spoken to High School Classes on my time in the military and I always add.... I am for a mandatory Military Conscription. Fresh from Graduation or of age if you quit school. I favor the same for male and female, married or not, children or not, job or not, and no deferments unless too physically impaired or mentally unable. College can start after you are in the military or following completion.... not before. If you choose to be a Doctor or Lawyer, you will be placed in reserve until you graduate ( monetary help) but still obligated to 2 years of active. I believe a one legged person can type. In the military today ...we have members who are amputees and I even saw one who was blind. There is a purpose they can serve and some of the leg amputees are assigned to airborne status as well as fly aircraft.... IN THEATER.
 
We have come to believe we are OWED what we have. It is ok for someone elses child to be in the military ..... but not MINE. It is ok to wave the flag on Veterans Day and yet never really know the importance beyond a parade or a cookout. We are only as free as we are willing to sacrifice...some will pay more than others..given, but a our safety forces in our communities have the same situation...yet we call police names and play Lookie Lou as Fire Personnel take chances. It is a case of respect. Respect is learned..from the family unit or service or.... maybe even prison.
 
So.... Korea, or the Sand Box.... not escalated or otherwise...it is WAR. If you get Combat Pay/Hazardous Duty Pay...there is a reason. 2nd ID drew it on the DMZ in Korea up until the time they were pulled back. Some Americans were drawing the same in Berlin until the Wall came down...
 
We are still PARTICIPANTS in the Korean Conflict and have been since it began until present.
 
God Bless Ron Paul and his ideas but... I don't want the military we ended up with after WWII. We cut the hell out of personnel and equipment and training. When Korea started ....we were "flying blind" and due to the cuts...even had to train men with FREAKING brooms because? We didn't have enough rifles...tanks... howitzers... ETC. I don't want America in that situation again. Because of that .... more of our men and women died on the Battlefield. We do not live in a WOODSTOCK world.

Actually there was a brief interruption in registration obligation for the selective service. Registration for the selective service was reinstated in 1980. The exclusions for non-registration were for those born between July, 1958 (?) and January 1, 1960. I fall in this range and was never legally required to register. Nonetheless I think it is a good idea.

Hmmm.... Paid Employees..I like that.... Maybe you should check the payscales of these men and women and their job descriptions...

I meant no disrespect, and i'm fully aware that their salaries are pathetic (especially when we learn that private contractors are being paid several times as much to do work that the military used to do itself).

Nonetheless, when you break it out and look at it as the U.S. paying to have hundreds of thousands of "police" perpetually patrolling the world, it makes you think.

....the factually reality  is the US has been the sole nation willing and capable of sacrificing    national wealth to stand against oppressive states around the globe, and  invest in and furthering democracy and democratic principles to advance  and hasten the enrichment of the human condition world wide more than  any other country has done in the history of humankind....

....the latest data listed in the Human Development Index , published in the  2010 Human Condition Report recently released  by the United Nations Development Programme documents:

....two-thirds of the countries in today's world are now considered democracies-

....compared to one-third of the countries that were democracies in the 70s on the planet....

....income  in the developing world has rose 184 percent over the same period,  versus a 126 percent rise in the  'old' countries developed prior to  1970 ( meaning our income in constant-value inflation-adjusted dollars has nearly doubled, while over the same period in the new developing democracies in the world- their income has nearly tripled) ....

....literacy in the developing world risen 61 percent since 1970 with new school enrollments....

....and life expectancy also have risen sharply in most of those nations....

....even as the global population explodes, the rates of poverty, malnutrition and illiteracy have been on a steady decline in more places than not....

....the  gains made in quality of life and access to schools across the world  are tied directly to an increase in freedom and democracy....

....which in many if not most cases-

....though,  I did read a report today where  Dear Leader Dad had just visited the North Korean artillery battery an hour before the battery opened fire on the south....

I hate to say it but this has been an "international event for 60.... YEARS. and you want to play "Out of Sight, Out of Mind'. Where were people over those 60 years??? I never occurred we were still..... in a War??? Now we react? Let me ask you, was the two yes 2 time hit on the Twin Towers an INTERNATIONAL EVENT? USS COLE? EMBASSIES IN AFRICA and Saudi? We are constantly involved in an INTERNATIONAL EVENT. We also have "agreements" with MANY countries... NATO, SEATO, CENTO... well... try this...

Again, I love how some people think we are a "PEACEFUL" nation. We NEVER were and most likely Never will be. Our Nation was started and Formed by ..yes.... REBELS and GUERILLAS. We killed more Americans just fighting amongst OURSELVES in the 1860's than at any other time. We are and continue to be...one of the biggest Arms Dealers in the world. Our industry is BASED on military...a Car Company can at any time...become a builder of military equipment, our R&D is always looking at way our Military can use new technology.... be it as simple as a laser level to a Killer Laser... Clothing industry tech, looking for a cloth that is invisible... for Deer Hunters??? LOL try an invisable SOLDIER. SUPER GLUE? Originally to seal bleeding wounds in OUR soldiers in the Korean Conflict... Hell...even the very INTERNET we are presently using was....a MILITARY DEVELOPEMENT  ( not invented by Gore). I don't know how old some of you are but sometimes I wonder if you either remember or are old enough to.
 
Our Leaders signed those Military Agreements in full visage of all of us. We just didn't give a damn..it didn't affect me buying that Chevy or taking that Cruize. Like I said.... we are reactive as a whole and proactive only when it has to do with their personal issues. So... did this "sneak up" on us??? No way.... it is not always a matter of if, but, when. You didn't see your DOLLAR turning to Butt Fodder after being taken off the Gold Standard??? Oh , that's right.... you were too busy buying homes you knew you couldn't afford or a car you couldn't afford , not to mention all the electronic and bling we accumulate. I don't agree with both parties... an answer is "Go to the Mall..." or we just made 10,000 jobs without maybe a mention...we lost 20,000 or the FED making our dollar worth even less. If anyone thinks all this "snuck up" on us...needs to stay awake long enough to look around. Yes...there are people "doing well". I see them..buying foreclosed houses or re-poed cars. Our industry norm in some communities is earning on the misery and misfortune of others.. Watch what I see on TV.... "Buy homes for $100", "How to become a Millionaire", "Flip this house", Work at home and make $100,000/year, or all the BUY GOLD!!! or this is good... REVERSE MORTGAGES all hawked by people who never needed to worry about THEIR futures... We see the Market going up but who understand that perhaps most of the reason is nothing to do about the Good Ol' USA. Apple is almost 50% sales and manufacturing....everywhere BUT here. Now... the Stock Market is an International EVENT for sure.
 
Like it or not... we are now tied into EVERY Burp, Fart, and Upchuck of everywhere outside our borders. Our choice is either to protect our asses and intrests or, dress up in a red dress and sparkles and sell it. We slept through this and now we are complaining about being woke up??? Sorry if I don't quite get it.
 
Well, another Christmas is coming. I wonder if our Parents and especially our Grand Parents would recognize it. We hollar that we have AMERICANS..1 out of 10 I heard who is NOT being fed. All the Homeless.... from people to animals... but we park our consumer Gluteous Maximus' on a sidewalk to be FIRST IN LINE for a sale that is at best.. benefitial to the first 100. and Stores opened ON Thanksgiving, Easter, even Christmas Day. We have become Consumers with no break. Next... men will be on the Golf course while their wives give birth or a first birthday party... It isn't a far reach to make any milestone or event, just another day. You're right, I don't have as much faith in us now as I use to. Sometimes I get to the point where I can't blame the politicians... WE voted FOR them. But after innaguation it seems to be us, sitting to wait for things to come to us and are disappointed when it doesn't and never checked or understood WHY. "We did our job...WE VOTED!!!" Riiiiight    And then you went home and waited.....
 
This incident in Korea will come and go. We and South Korea will bend to the wants of KIM and Lil KIM. My Daughter In Law talked with me as we were at Thanksgiving Dinner. She is truly afraid...She is a Korea Immigrant and now American Citizen. I have 2 beautiful Grand Daughters. She knows what is happening... today the family KIM shot up that Island.... she knows the prise is Seoul unless, we all fold like cheap suits...and I suspect we will. We will arrange to supply the North with Food ( Which most of it goes to his military) and Fuel...the same. I think this is why we are reactive...." "If anything... we need as many "good will " Ambassadors as we can get. True, our military has did the fighting but they also build and repair and care for people all over the world. Even in the War in Vietnam... I have seen rural programs where the Special Forces ( You know..those guys who eat snakes and pull the heads off chickens ) teach as well as participate in villages to dig a well for fresh water , build a school/hospital and their Doctors do Dent-CAP and Med- CAP for people who never saw a doctor or a dentist in their life. Teach them better ways to grow crops and irrigate. I think it is money well spent. "

We don't see nearly enough of the good our troops are doing on the news, but they are doing good things for "them".
