Exactly. You've obviously been there, too.

I saw them a 2nd time in cleveland a few months ago. For those from the sharon area who might recognize the name, Darren Dowler, formerly of The Letterman, is the new vocalist, aka Baby Raider.

I live about 40 minutes from Branson, go thru at least once a month, more in the warmer months

From what i'm told, hardly anyone goes through there in the non-warm months.

just before we went there a year ago, i had found online what seemed like a good hotel. I called it directly to see if they had a better rate. The night desk clerk i spoke with mentioned in passing that his wife, too, were from pennsylvania.  Upon further questioning I eventually figured it it was from somewhere nearby like mercer or fredonia.

For those who think this thread has gone off the rails, i'll just point out that pretty much any show of any kind that you go to in branson, mo., will ask vets to stand (if they can; lots of senior-filled bus tours) for a round of applause and a "let's all support the troops" word.

Hawk, most of the theaters shut down right after X-mass thru the 1st week of Feb.
But thats when the fishing is best on the river, so while not a crazy crowded as the other months, there are a ton of sportsmen there for the worldclass trout fishing.

They use to play every year at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and Reflecting Pool during Rolling Thunder. "Revere" would ride into DC on his bike (horse). It was always enjoyable.

We even memorized the Midnight Ride of Paul Revere.
Just as an aside, he and the Raiders are alive and well and playing Branson regularly in addition to occasional tours, playing their historic hits.

Well the Herald did mention Pearl Harbor on the front page...today 8 Dec. They must not have had room on the ACTUAL day and yes.... there was mention on Lennon's death ...even though Dec 8 was the day we officially declared our entrance into WWII. Well didn't Lennon say he ( Beatles) was more popular than Jesus Christ?  ;)

I looked at the Herald and not one mention on the front page. (If it was at all I may have missed it) We need to remember the day John Lennon was shot though.
Perhaps you missed the lengthy story and photo that started at the top of the front page monday, marking the round, milestone 69th anniversary.

Meanwhile, i didn't see any Lennon coverage at all in the herald. How quickly we forget.

Maybe they waited a day since the bombing of Pearl didn't really hit the papers until December 8th. There were a lot of special editions put out on December 7th though. Special editions are now a thing of the past.

Even a HEADLINE mention would have been good on the 7th...they usually do it for Christmas and New Years....  We have a few survivors that live in the area...Couldn't they have interviewed them prior to the 7 Dec issue and put in an article on the 7th??? Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda I guess.

When my sons and I vacationed in South Dakota this past summer, a slightly more elaborate recognition occurred at the lighting up ceremony at Mt Rushmore. The park ranger had all of the veterans come down to the stage for the lowering of the flag and the subsequent lighting up of Mt Rushmore ceremony. Even though my children know I am a veteran, I think they were still  a little surprised (and moved/proud) when I wended my way to the stage to stand with my fellow vets. Although I am usually low key about my service, for myself, it was a very poignant and moving ceremony. The relatively few number of us out of thousands in attendance surprised me but the heartfelt applause for us was equally humbling. Not to take anything away from it, but afterward I realized that it was an inherently biased crowd (i.e. People visiting Mt Rushmore are not America haters)

Mention? In the edition i got, it was an entire 4 out of 6 columns on the front page and part of page 2, with 3 photos.

Veterans and remembrance are important, no question about that. But how much more does it take to satisfy? Where was the clamor last spring to mark the 149th anniversary of the start of the Civil War or the 198th anniversary of the War of 1812? And the Spanish American War centennial went unnoticed 12 years ago.
