Where are the snow plows?
« on: January 08, 2011, 05:02:04 PM »
About 10" on the ground with more coming and I haven't seen a snow plow come down my road yet today.  Anything going on I don't know about?

Husband had to go to work tonight - he said the roads are terrible.  Be careful out there.

....the few times I have ventured back during the white-covered dark months, I have been stunned at the huge reduction in plowing efforts as compared to  the times of the winters of youth....

....but such is more and more a common occurrence across the country as communities face budget shortage and have to make cuts....

...out here is is common to see yellow diamond signs on country roads- "THIS ROAD IS NOT PLOWED BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 7 PM and 6 AM", you live on that road, you plan accordingly....

....and here in the mile-high city, I can, vouch that if it is not a significant snow, i.e.- over 8", the major road snow-clearing operation is rush-hour traffic....

....it is not uncommon for the interstates in all four cardinal directions out of Denver to be simultaneously closed, not so much because of the snow, but to the lack of plows....

....I've been here over 15 years and my eastern suburb street has never once been plowed and it is up to the neighbors to figure how to deal with it....

....a sign of the times....

I think they always focus on the interstates first.

I was looking into buying a Unimog with a snowblower on it when I lived in great white north. Unfortunately the initial cost was way too high compared with the return I would have gotten. It would have been a super fun get down in the mud rig in the summer. but I didn't get it, was too much money and the maintenance would have been too much as it was.

You could either send your kids to college or buy that machine.  Guess I am spoiled - live on a road that the school bus runs on - so on school days we are plowed out pretty well.
Oh well - guess the worst thing is that I am out of bread, tried to make a loaf and my yeast isn't any good.  Will try and get out tomorrow.

No bread equals a panic attack here. I haven't made bread in a couple of weeks. Maybe tomorrow.

One bright side of this Pennsylvania snow - It was great skiing today at 7 Springs!   ;D  I know many of you dealing with it, don't like this comparison, but remember the bottle is 1/2 full or empty, depending on your point of view.  Enjoy it while you have it, Spring will be here in a blink of the eye!

PennDot was not out last night or this morning.  Drove home from Meadville and you could definately tell which townships were up and out and which ones were not!  What a nightmare.  285S and my road were untouched.  It's always that way on the weekends.  No school = no PennDot.

...man, they saved a bundle on over time!  Just think of all the new road signs they can buy to keep the art students in supply of the used road signs for the DOT artwork! :D ....
