Theodores and Chinese restaurant on Park Ave
« on: January 27, 2011, 09:44:14 AM »
Must be a sign of the times.  Theodores is closed for lunch - not opening until 3 p.m. - and the chinese restaurant across the street is closed - must have been sold.  It has been a rough few years around this town.

That particular Chinese place was awful when the last guy took it over.  I liked it a lot better when the prior owners had it.  The food just plummeted.....bleck.  The price was right though.  Most of those feeding trough places are pretty inexpensive.  The couple times I went there to meet friends for lunch the place was pretty full.....looked like a lot of people who work downtown liked to go there?

My little girl used to call the Chinese place "The Honk Honk Buffet." I liked it as the Hawaiin Palace. It was Ok as the Hong Kong Buffet - but we stopped going there after a while . . . .

Hawaiian Palace....that's it.  It was much better.  I avoid those kind of places though.

Chinese ? 100 Chinese Buffet across from the days Inn without a doubt is a really good place to Dine.Been dining there for a couple years now and HAVE NOT had a bad meal and the place is clean which even makes it a greater +. I have dined at the one on Park Ave a few times and was not impressed at all but I will say that they do have good General Tso Chicken.

The one in the Plaza used to be the best imo.  Before they, too, got new owners.  It's still decent but not as good.  I think the 100 has become a weekend staple for my husband and kids.  It's his favorite too.

Rode by the Chinese place on Park Ave tonight on my way home from work and it was open.  The thing I liked about that restaurant was that I could buy it by the pound to take out.  Great quick dinner when I was running late.
I also enjoyed the Hawaiian Palace, but my favorite was the one in the County Market plaza - been closed for years.  When my daughters were at home we would always go for the buffet for Saturday lunch, we enjoyed it very much.

The Great Wall.. I really liked that one, too. I like the one in the Plaza; we do our homage to A Christmas Story on Christmas Eve there.

Yeah, right now the one in the plaza is the best one in town.  Got to go to Erie to get the really good stuff though.

... Got to go to Erie to get the really good stuff though...
....Chinese food here in America is light years away from the flavor and appearance of the food in Asia....

....when Sis and I were in the Big Apple last summer for the 5 Boro Bike ride, I took her to a no-English-anywhere Chinese Mom & Pop place deep in China town on the lower east side....

....about the only things she could recognize were the rice and the Tsing Tsao ; she promptly spit the the wanton out saying clearly shocked- "...it wiggled in my mouth!!"....

....and if you are really looking for something "exotic".....try eating Chinese in Korea....

We always hit Chinatown when we hit up NYC.  Last time we were there my husband told our waitress my son was learning Mandarin so she greeted him in Chinese and he smiled and greeted her in return.  He tried to order in Chinese and she was able to understand as he got it about half right.  He thought it was cool.  But you're right.......it is harder to order in a place like that!

Yuen's across from WalMart is the best. The food is prepared fresh, no buffet.

I prefer to order fresh rather than have someone else picking through the buffet food, or sneezing on it. I've seen people put food on their plate, then decide they don't want "that much" and put it back in the serving pans...yuck!

Yuen's doesn't use MSG, you can order it the way you like it, and it's delicious.
