Think on this one.  They build a new building for CATA down on Water Street (across from the city building).  They have to park their busses at other locations.  Why didn't they use the old Eighty Four building - everything could have fit in that building and it was already sitting there?  Guess they don't care when it is our money they are spending.

I totally agree with Janet.  I don't know who paid for that building, but it
did not have to be in downtown Meadville.  Meadville is losing three more businesses soon, and all that will be left will be tax-free buildings
associated to government. Meadville used to be a hoppin town, what the
heck happened to all the excitement?

Who paid for it?

Stimulus money paid for it.

Thanks Life for the figures. I guess I don't have the patience to go into it that deep. I guess I just don't understand what takes precidence over other things.I guess the Mead Ave bridge is way back on the action list of things to do.  :)  I guess, I guess, and I guess at most things anymore.

Well I would rather see my tax dollars come back to the area as stimulus money than go somewhere else.

that stimulus money could have come to this area in a much more productive way.  It isn't one or the other.

Per the Trib, most of the money was from 2001. The rest from the city's capital fund.
Gotta thank George Bush for this one.

"About a decade ago, $334,500 in federal funding was made available for the project in the form of a grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation funded through the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act. The balance of the funding will come from the city’s capital reserves.

Because federal transportation money flows from federal to state departments of transportation before funneling back to the formal recipients — in this case, the city — the project is under the direction of Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, said Williams. PennDOT’s pre-construction meeting with M&B Services LLC of Clarion, winner of the $487,441.56 contract, is scheduled for late next week".

Interesting. there was a sign out front of the site that said it was Federal stimulus funds . . . which kind of alludes to the recent one.

Still think it's a waste of money. Granted CATA's current offices in the old bank building downtown ain't the Ritz . . . but, $500K would have gone a goodly way to increasing transportation to more outlying areas or even increasing the amount of weekend routes available to the folks who use the service.

I just recently heard that Neon Moon Bar that just burnt down is now relocating in the Gringo's building.... This building would have been an idea spot for the Whole Darn thing. If I am not mistaking I think this is where they first opened up back in the 70's...

Lock, the Roha shoe building is still standing.  You must have seen where the Whole Darn thing was.
