Did anyone read Mr. Herald's letter to the editor on Tuesday? It was harsh!

not harsh, just restating the obvious realities that too many people are unable to grasp.

as he touches on, the real taxpayer burden comes from schools, which tax at a rate several times that of their respective city governments.

farrell is a perfect example, going through another round of multimillion-dollar building projects; giving the superintendent a 6% raise; and a couple weeks ago sending 6 of the 9 board members to a national conference in San Fran at a cost of at least 2 or 3 grand apiece.

somehow schools operate differently, perhaps because around half of their money isn't local but comes from the state, which, for those who haven't made the connection, still comes from us. Or, in the proposed budget, comes from the state in much smaller quantities.

I think calling the Sharon firemen arsonists was harsh.   :o

Here is my read now and has been

When I have gone to a City Council Meeting and someone brings up the increase in taxes that we pay to the school, someone on the Council decries..."Take it up with the School Board, we have no say in that." And when I have sat in on School Board Meetings and the Same is said of the City... They decry the same of the City.

Jawhawks point is that if you "draw your water" from the same WELL as the other...... you had better realize that if it goes "dry" it is because of a conserted effort of both and indeed... one has a lot to do with the other. Our problem is, we just can't seem to get either of these MULES to track together. So... sometimes a 2X4 has to be brought out to "realign them". If all we or the media has is words.... yup...sometimes it may seem harsh but.... if that is all you really have..... ::)

I think the last time we actually dug in and did anything with both on the same page was the City telling the School District that they were not going to continue with the Crossing Guard Program. Some Parents, screamed the Fruit of There Loins were going to become undercoating for various vehicles. The fact remained that I raised a question as to when and why these Crossing Guard Jobs became Paid Positions with Benefits in the first place. I remember when our Sharon Schools had Crossing Guards.... They were the kids from the schools. And...their pay was a Ball Game toward the end of the year.

Now... these kids did this "job" and it was a time where there were MORE Children. They had a responsibility and from what I remember...no kids were run over. I heard parents at the meetings say that the Students weren't responsible enough to do the job now....and I scratched my head and siad...is this how our Kids have progressed??? Less resonsible NOW than before? And I asked why? Can you guess the answers? I almost fell over. These "Kids" are deemed...the FUTURE OF OUR SOCIETY. LMAO....

Point is.... we as taxpayers, are just trying to get the "Legal Parasites" to understand.... there is only so much blood. We want them to consider the whole picture and remove their blinders or.... the 2x4 comes out.

Fact... our tax base is really down...thus putting the WHOLE burden on a few.

Fact... the entities involved do not or will not see what is being asked before they make decisions.

Can we really afford a NEW school as opposed to "leasing" ( which we are going to do now) and educate LESS Children than ever? Pay 6 figure salaries to every Sup. in each Community? Does the Tax Base have the ability to continue to keep the "Legacy Agreements" in place as they presently are?

We have to look at the demographics of the local communities.... There are a hell of a lot of FIXED INCOM RETIREES still living here, as well as a ton of lower income or underemployed. Not that those things make us different than a lot of communities but.... we need to take that into consideration when our Government entities go to spend a dollar. We have to maybe change some laws around...such as revamping the Tax-Exempt/Non-Profit status .. There are a hell of a lot of NON PROFIT working families out there as well.

If times have changed to the point that Crossing Guards are now a viable/paid "job position" then these other things need a hard look as well. Just MHO.
