Nissan Leaf?????
« on: April 21, 2011, 05:32:02 PM »
Please,, someone.... explain why we are lead to believe these cars are s eco friendly???? All they do is Crap in the yards around the Electric Power Plants that they draw their power from.... where is the plus but for the company and the bank?

People think Electricity as it is supplied right now...is totally clean... they need to check into the Coal Fireds and if they have to increase the Coal fired production.... I wonder what the EPA would say  ::) ... Now we give awards to them to boot. And from what I understand...not so many were sold here in the USA to begin with.... I thought I saw the number ...less than 10,000. I need a car that can get out of it's own way and not just going downhill. Are we really that gullible?...LOL don't answer that...I already have the answer. Going Green is not as clean as we think and costs more than most of us can afford at this time.

After all, aren't we the people who bought all the PET ROCKS and the Chia Pets?????

I don't understand how people are are so blind to think that our electricity comes from thin air. One thing for sure, if there is a dire emergency and a large are has to be evacuated anybody with an electric car is screwed. At least with the current state of technology.

I have never understood why our little genny which can generate a substantial amount of power and run for 8 hours on 3 gallons of gas could not be mounted into an small car and driven or eight hours at 60mph. That's 480 miles on 3 gallons of gas. I knwo it's not quite that simple, but what has prevented this from coming to market?

We have a lot of coal and natural gas, and renewable energy sources increasing steadily.

the basic principal is to use that to generate electricity, to recharge electric cars battieries, to replace some of the 180,000,000 gallons of gasoline we consume daily. Much of which is refined from foreign souce oil.

And how much more coal do we have to use to charge those batteries..MY POINT... no..you don't shit in YOUR yard..you do that in the yards around the Power Plants.... Same crap just someplace else. and....if you build and buy these ELECTRIC cars, you said one word that bothers me even more.... disposition of all the acids and components of bad batteries and circuits??? Sure some will make it to recycle but not if there is no real cost return.... Hell even now ...recycling isn't the hottest business in the world.

If you want to help with environment PLUS energy source...convert vehicles to...NATURAL GAS. We are the Saudi Arabia of NG. No one else has reserves to match ours. plus.... how much utility is in an electric vehicle but for being a grocery getter or pick the kids up after soccer. Road Trip???? I think not, unless you pack one change of clothes and bag lunches. They are NOT built to HAUL much of anything so my bet..they will be a "second" car parked next to the Mini Van or SUV.

We need to rethink this and be truthful across the board.... FOSSIL/Petroleum style fuels will be with us for centuries. Last I checked...for the coming 20 -40 years, our Airlines are buying Petrol Fueled Aircraft and I have yet to see an "Electric" Tank or Chopper... Humans have a need to be able to move and to make war in one way shape or form. Both are lucerative markets.... and Petro is what feeds both.

Now we are sacrificing food for alcohol... for every new step...it has bad consequence on another aspect of our society.. Rob Peter to pay Paul... IMHO

The stone age didn't end because they ran outta stones. We'll be using oil for awhile. Solar and friends are a joke right now.

Of course not. There's be no point to it, because you'd still be on the hook for a sewer bill anyway.

I may have to go back and correct something I wrote a few posts back..."Now we are sacrificing food for alcohol... ".... I even read that with DDG the animals, beef and hogs, have a 17% increase in growth because the DDG is mostly the protein. Straight corn is not good for them to eat.

Here is also a tidbit... Revenuers who were hunting for stills in the hills would...sometimes go to County Fairs and check those owners of livestock that appeared larger than most of the others... a sign that they could have been fed the residue of illegal White Lightning production.

So now I wonder.. Penn State has also done a study and confirms the positive side of feeding DDG to our meat supply and if we consume the refined part of the product before the meat...then it has to have positives for our food supply...hence... why has the price of beef and pork gone up as they commit more corn harvest to ethanol production.... Does there seem to be something wrong with some of this "math"? Right now this practice is prevelant in Nebraska... the USA's second largest Cattle Producing State as well as Second in Corn Production.

We had a similar discussion about hybrids here a loooong time ago. A lot of the issues apply for both all-electric and hybrid vehicles both.

Right now we are in a way facing the same problem the country faced in the early 1900's. That problem being where are we going to get the feed for all the horses needed and who's going to clean up after them? Enter the automobile and the horse became obsolete. The automobile isn't going anywhere for some time, but the fuel source need to change. Is electricity the answer? At this point in time the best electricity can offer is a temporary alternative in my (at best) estimation.

So there is a need that requires fulfillment. Who's got the money to do it and WILL they do it if it means a drastic change to profit margins, power structures, etc.

Yesterday I was on my way to town for an appointment when I saw this man plowing his fields. I didn't have my camera handy and was kicking myself, knowing I was going to miss an excellent photo op. I pulled my car over and called a friend of mine who is a photographer in Cochranton, and told him to grab his camera and run up to Miller's on Rt 27. He got there in time to capture some really great shots.

A 6-horse team!

A small example of people working together... something I am always advocating. I knew I couldn't get the shots, but Keith could. Now the moment is captured for a lifetime of enjoyment.

Fabulous shots!
Reminded me of something I saw on the news yesterday.  A man from Mason Farms was complaining about how wet the land is....they can't plow and they are supposed to be planting about every 7 days right now and they dont know what to do.  They are afraid fruits and veggies are going to be super late this year.  Maybe they should hire a few of these guys????

In the end, we can all learn some lessons from thees folks who are still out there, doing it "raw".

Humbling, really.
It's all in your perspective of what matters.

And would I be allowed to eviscerate my wife if she cheats? Still remembering the case up north of me a number of years back. He was in prison for a very short time before handed over to the Community, from the English, and sent, I think, to a community in Ohio. I think he killed himself eventually, on his return to his community up near Franklin..

My point... even the Amish/Quaker/Mennonite... etc... have their demons and "quirks". And more than a few "Cheat" in their lifestyle. I know the kids sometimes hide "English" Clothes and some even cars, to use when sneaking to join others. I even knew a few who enjoyed going to Biker events...wearing the clothing as well. Tight T-shirts and jeans for the females....

So... don't make out that they are a group to look up to ... how they live and all. They have their Demons like us.

Most of the Pics you see of them plowing... sure...it is them but don't ever think if given the chance..a tractor wouldn't be involved. The Children are drifting to English, more and more everyday. The numbers dwindle.

For me, I lived with hand drawn or hand pumped water, pot belly stoves and wood fired kitchen stove. I lived with the Galvinized tub for a bath and even gas or kerosene lamps. A "Double Holer" because of all the kids to include "outhouse clothes" in case of a night time need. Have even helped a farmer down the road with his team of Plow Horses... "Prince and Freddy", when it came time to plow or haul.

Not a life I would want to live today. I like the Light switch and a faucet that reads H or C. And there is just something about a handle that washes the waste out of the toilet to someplace else instead of moving the Outhouse when the hole is full.

It all makes for a quaint post card picture but let me be a bit decadent in my lifestyle and no...I do NOT wish I had theirs. You can have my share if you so choose  ;) .
