Garage fix-up splits council
« on: April 24, 2011, 10:04:53 AM »
So the city has to spend $41,000 that it doesn't have, and redirect a half a million dollar grant that was originally supposed to be used for some other useless project(the footbridge), all to hold up their end of an agreement with the developer of the Lofts project which hasn't even started, is several years late, and is a dubious idea to begin with!

Anybody have any thoughts on this?

but remember, the grant isn't local money, so it's free money from out of the sky. Who cares if it's for a made-up project or something we don't need? Isn't that the logic?

I don't think they even paid for the garage yet. Are they using the foot bridge money for the garage?

Yes, that's what the article said, which is probably a better use of that money anyway.
I hadn't heard of this agreement before and I'm a little surprised that the city is going to uphold their end of the deal(at a tax payer expense of $41,000) when it appears that the Lofts might not ever be built- not that I really care.

They should fence that parking deck off and quit throwing money into it.
