Real bear. The bear had a muzzle on though. The ring was set up in fron of Shyrocks (sp?)

The point is I remember chestnut being SLAMMED with people from Water Street to Diamond Park, and EVERY store was open with discount racks on the sidewalk.

Pretty simple, cheap concept. Oh yea, you need real stores to pull it off. They took away Murphy's, and that was the end for me.

TiFe, that was during the Sidewalk Sales Days.....I do remember and also around the Market House they had cages of tiger cubs where you could go in and hold one & get your picture taken.

OMG, what a flashback......If I can find that picture of me I will share  :D

Speaking of sidewalk sales days......they tried to revive that several years ago.   We went but it was the pits.   All that was set up were food vendors selling fair food.   Not one store was set up outside giving bargains.   That is the whole idea of those types of events......give the customer a bargain.

I remember the sidewalk sales back in the early sixties when Wards and Pennys participated. I would buy a lot of my work clothes then and really stock up on them. They both had good quality work clothes ( american made )...... ::)

There are no more clothing stores on Chestnut St......In fact, there are few clothing stores left in Meadville.

I thought of something this morning whilst driving down Chestnut street.....I sure would be nice it the city could actually pave the ENTIRE street this year.   It's a real mess from upper Chestnut all the way to Water st.   What gets me is that at the corner of Chestnut and Park they put in the bricks for the crosswalks.   Most of the bricks are broken up and instead of fixing them with new bricks someone decides it would look prettier with asphalt dumped in the holes.   Looks shoddy and terrible.

Most of the streets of Meadville are in really poor shape.

Oh and the parking lot beside the Hong Kong Buffet is now under total renovation so no parking there.

I still cant believe the bear wrestling bit.

i gotta agree on the street conditions.  they are attrocious.  i wont even drive my grand prix in town.  Half the time I'm hitting pot holes that you cant swerve around and then bottoming out the car.  Ewwww no.
