I usually drive the 3 miles to Hubbard Ohio from Sharon. Gas can be as much as $.30 a gal cheaper in Ohio than here. Worth the trip.

Country Fair does not use Citgo any more. They are now owned by United Refining out of Warren, PA. The gas sold there is all Canadian I understand.

I think there was some agreement with Citgo they would sell it under the Citgo brand even though it wasn't Citgo gas at all. Probably some kind of PR contractual thing that need to be continued. Hugos ego (hey, catchy band name) came into play I'm sure as there has been a huge backlash in the US against Citgo.

Not sure but I think this says Citgo is from South America. Can't see the advatage of selling it as Citgo. Canada only sells OIL according to this source...

From the wiki link

"United Refining acquired the brand name of Citgo, when in 2002 it bought a local gas station and convenience store chain called Country Fair, Inc. in Erie, Pennsylvania.[3] Country Fair has a license agreement with Citgo to use "Citgo's brands, trademarks and other forms of identification."[4]
A Country Fair gas station in Fairview Township in Erie County, Pennsylvania.

After Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez's speech to the United Nations, there were calls to boycott the Citgo brand.[4] United Refining officials watched to see if the brand became "too hot to handle"[4] and drop the brand name even though United Refinery's crude oil comes from Canada.[4] United Refining also removed some Citgo signs from gas stations they were operating in upstate New York and Pennsylvania due to the potential threat of a boycott on Citgo.[5]"

I was just going to post this but....... this still doesn't say that CITGO draws from CANADA just that URC does...and again...what is the advantage to holding onto the CITGO name??

Obfuscation at it's best....

What I got from that (and other sources say the same) is that Country Fair had a license agreement to maintain the Citgo brand name. When United bought them they used their own source (Canada) and brand it as Citgo. I think this will eventually stop when whatever contract they have with Citgo expires and they decide to change the signs.
