Gun-totin' record keepers

The [Mercer County] Prothonotary has administrative control and responsibility for keeping and maintaining all official documents and records, as well as the official Seal of the Civil Division. Nonetheless, ads running for candidate Ruth Bice not only indicate that she has the endorcement of the incumbut, but her qualifications also include that she is a member of Leesburg Presby Church and is a hunter and NRA member. What the hell that has to do with stewardship of county records is beyond me.

Maybe she considers that a type of character reference.

Politics. ie. more people will like me because of "X." If they came our and declared a religious allegiance to the Church of Scientology and a member of Allah for America it would be political suicide in Mercer county or most anywhere else.

Human nature is that we gravitate to those like us. Just look at demographics at different levels. Has a lot to do with religion, race, economics and education.... even attitude.

To quote the late Ed McMahon... "You are correct sir!" or we could also paraphrase the age old idiom "Birds of a feather..."

Human nature is that we gravitate to those like us. Just look at demographics at different levels. Has a lot to do with religion, race, economics and education.... even attitude.

You seem to push your wellbeing into conversation... and through life... human nature had you associating with your kind/status as you moved "up". I am sure we have many in this area that are doing as good or BETTER than you, financially and tastewise in their circle. We still have a lot of OLD money packed away here. Remnants of the Carnegies/Buhls/Forkers/McDowells etc. We have many gated and highend developments in our area. Hell, even one of our Commissioners is a millionaire...but in this day and age..not all that uncommon.

So... please tell me you were being facetious? Now.. maybe you and I would never cross paths due to different social/Eco status..... that is society. My point is that we tend to gravitate to familiars... Be well

Well if that is the Case...we are Never Moving back to the Area... ;D ;D ;D ... :-* ...

Forgive me but sometimes it isn't in a joking manner... Mrs. Madura of Hermitage made a comment a while back about not wanting "poor people" to move to Hermitage.... and this when SHE owns a mill on Water in Sharon and her employees are paid HOW MUCH. It can be a sore spot to some who live in Sharon. Now she was an ass to say that around a reporter but...she did...and it ended up in ink. Now are we to wonder if she was being facetious?? Or truthful in her eyes and words. And she wasn't and isn't the only.

Now...am I being facetious or...maybe a bit truthful?  ??? ::) ;D

Funny we were just talking about the Forkers and the McDowells with our guests this past weekend as we both used to hang out with them...oh and don't forget the Jubelirer's...

But then again and as Usual the HUMOR on here is Soooooooo...DRY... ::) ...Should not have toooo...tell someone that I was or may have been Facetious... :shakeass: ...some times some on here just need to lighten up a bit...believe me it really Don't HURT... ...oh and there will ALWAYS be some one Better then one...Financially and or tastewise...no matter where one lives...at least in some ones eyes... ;) ...oh... ;D ;D ;D ... :-* ...at the End AGAIN... 8) ...

Like you, we all have opinions... like certain body parts  ;)   LOL my treat? Well there is no Lobster and Steak in that.

Maybe I can be a bit thinskinned at times and even thick headed. Anything I type is always MY skew and a bit of observation. I don't intend to offend...unless that is the original intent and discussion.

As far as the size of my "box"   no bigger than anyone else...here or anywhere.

My opinions are based on having lived/stayed/but can never be buried in Sharon. I have been other places but always came "home". I have watched our Valley and some of the people in it for over 6 decades. We have our problems..... more than ever before and have LESS tools to change what I see as wrong. I watch GOOD people...everyday ...fold up and leave. Another hole in the fabric of what was once a vibrant community. Yes... I am a pessimist... I do try to see the good here but it is ALWAYS fleeting.... nothing permanent. it is like painting a skunk sometimes....  :-\ .. If you can't correct the "front end allignment" of your own "car" how can you ever bring the "BIG rig" into line. I see the "cars" being abandoned. IE... homes here, storefronts etc.

So... if I make anyone uncomfortable... I am sorry. Everyone has an opportunity to step up on the box and size means nothing... in that case... ;)

It's always fun. ;D .. the forums are an outlet.

Another election bulletin, this one from Thursday's Herald.

Someone has been -- GASP! -- stealing candidates' signs. Why, heck, there hasn't been a crime spree like it since, well, since the last election.

This time it's signs for a sheriff's candidate and a commissioner candidate. Said victim Matt McConnell: "It's very unfortunate that a campaign can be swayed by illegal activity, it's disappointing."

You know what's more disappointing than an election being swayed by the disappearance of signs? That an election can be swayed by the presence of signs.

Seriously, with all the possible qualifications and issue positions that should determine who is best to hold office, this dude believes the key to voters choosing him is abundant signage? How sad is that as a reflection on our system of democracy?

I think that helped me decide who i'm going to vote for. Final decision. That is, unless a better candidate hands me an emery board on the sidewalk seconds before i walk in to vote.

For little races - it's often just a question of name recognition. Our electorate is - for the most part - uninformed. 'Cept in the big elections - where they're completely mis-informed.

Sign theft has become more prevalent every election. Either that or it's just getting more attention. Advertising works weather or not the voters have a clue. At least now they candidates have gotten away from the family photo for their campaign images. The fact that they can reproduce instills zero confidence in me.
