Area electric bills to jump 60 percent by 2011
« on: January 12, 2008, 08:10:20 AM »
So in todays tribune there is an article they are predicting that electricity costs will jump sixty percent in the next three years I see. That's not exactly what everybody wants to hear is it? We are on a co-op here and the rates have soared already. We're still cheaper than most all of the other utilities, but our average bill has gone to close to $300 per month in the past two years. I'm sure ours will be going up too, but we certainly don't need it.

i saw that too. ouch. i will certainly make some changes around here. one will be not paying to heat the hot tub year round. it makes no sense to heat that to 102 degrees in  10 degree weather at those prices. ill drain it in the winter. that would save a ton of money.

Electric here is cheaper than Dubois.  granted, this place is smaller somewhat.  Both places are co-ops as well.  Our average bill in Dubois was 215 a month.  Here the two bills Ive gotten so far were both in the $60 range.

A $300 per month electric bill?  Are you kidding me?!?  We are also on a co-op.  We average about $90 a month.  That is for the house (4 bedrooms and 2 full baths), a barn and a garage.  We also has them put in an exra security light/pole behind the barn at the rear entrance for the horses because it is soooooo dark out there and we let them roam freely 24/7 which adds $10/month to our bill.  Holy Moly!  I can not imagine a $300 bill!  Every month!   In the warmer months we have had electric bills in the high $60's to low $70's range cause we are simply outside more and the days are longer obviously.  BUT I suppose you guys run the AC alot - even year rond.  That's expensive.  $300/month just sucks.

Yes, but remember we are all electric here and we have to run the A/C a good chunk of the year. How much do you spend per month on gas? I imagine that it all comes out pretty even in the end.

This past July-September we were running about $370

yea 300+ seems steep np, we ran central a/c all summer and 3 phase in the shop for several hours most days of the week and a few hours of the weekend, hot tub year round that filters 4 hours twice daily and heated,  now its winter, 2 gas furnaces but still have electric fan forced air, two computers (on all the time  ::) tee hee) and our electric is 80- 110 a month varied from summer to winter, you my friend are getting ripped off.... if you factor in my gas bill it still does not equal your 370...

I have a propane tank.  I filled  it mid December with about 430 gallons for about 1100 bucks.  I suspect I'll have to fill again in March.   I think we fill it on average about 3 times a year.  I'd say our gas bill is hideous.   Depends on what it is per gallon at fill time.  We get a locked in rate over the winter.

Last month was 235, but keep in mind that our cooling load here is way more than what you guys have to deal with there. In the dead of summer I can get up at 6:00 and and walk outside into 78 degrees sometimes. Just like you have to heat, we have to cool. It's 78 outside right now (and I'm not complaining cuz I'm wearing shorts)
